KCU Joplin vs. COMP-NW

Hi everyone! I’m trying to decide between WesternU COMP-NW (Lebanon, OR) and KCU-COM (Joplin) and would really appreciate input, especially from current students or recent grads. I’m currently interested in anesthesiology, but that could change!

A couple specific questions:

• For both schools, do most people end up getting their top ranked choice in the rotation lottery?
• COMP-NW uses H/HP/P/F, while KCU is H/P/F, and both have internal ranking/Dean’s list. Does this actually translate to a noticeable difference in stress or competition among students? They seem very similar
• For KCU, is it harder to match back into the Pacific Northwest? I’ve seen relatively few matches in that region, though I’m not sure if that’s just due to fewer students targeting it.

COMP-NW

• Closer to home (but still a 4-hour drive)
• Required OMM rotation (not a huge interest for me)
• Tuition higher by ~7K

KCU Joplin

• One of the original DOs
• Access to more urban rotation sites?
• Farther from home (no direct flight)

KCU likely has fewer students from the Pacific Northwest. Most of those attending COMP likely are from the area and came to the school because they want to relocate.
