I got an interview invite from NSU...but I didnt do WES.
Maybe they will make me do it after or something...who knows.
congrats man 👍 I sent it to them just in case.

Hey Razmatazz, just outta curiosity when were you complete at NSU??
To the other Canadians, hows secondaries coming?? Im only done NSU, LECOM-B, KCOM, CCOM, and AZCOM. Ahhh still got Touro-NY, MSU, PCOMs, UNE and both Westerns
SOOO many essays![]()
I should be getting them this week. But i have already started working on them. My plan was to get them done before i start getting them but there are just so many essays that i know will take time and editing before i send them. So far i only have azcom completed (unedited) and have just started working on the ccom ones.
Did you manage to get your other science letter drc? Are u using interfolio as well.
Oh for interfolio I jut thought that you send it to the do schools electronically. But oh well another few hundred on top of the thousands already. I have two science one non science and then one do and one md( don't have it yet but hopefully by this week).haha so i almost screwed myself by thinking i could just copy and paste my CCOM stuff into the AZCOM parts and simply change CCOM to AZCOM. Luckily i decided to read it to make sure it made sense with AZCOM....and sure enough AZCOM has not had "over a century to establish an impressive reputation" as i had word by word in CCOM lol but the second question i kept the same but changed the school title
No other science letter yet. My own program advisor who helped me design my degree and whom i saw like every month....and who was my prof for two courses....turned me down. He said my "A-" didnt stand out enough to him.... even though it was like the 3rd highest mark and no one got above an A-
The other prof finally got back from vacation and said she is writing it now so hopefully she will hurry up. Im actually starting to be more like "**** how good the 2nd science is, i just want it so i can submit". I have one really good science already and one amazing D.O. I am using Interfolio, i like it. Definitely check it out if u can. It does cost $12 per delivery though (2 day delivery with 2 letters). Not sure what it is for 3 letters
How are your ref letters?
I applied to 12 schools (all the ones that accept international student according to CIB) and got back 10 secondaries with acknowledgments from other two. All secondaries submitted (toughest being the evaluation form for MSUCOM--annoying and easiest being LECOM-Bradenton). And I got 1 interview invite (UNECOM--Oct) and waiting for an interview date from TOURO-NY (given their $200 sec fee, they ought to interview anyone they send a secondary, at least thats what the email and sec app says--that I WILL be interviewed after submitting secondary ). Keeping my fingers crossed for more interviews--hopefully!!!
Its quite a stressful process guys! We all just need to remain calm! Please don't waste ur time (and MONEY!)with schools that don't accept internationals cos it makes no sense!
I can post the list of schools I applied to if anyone needs it or secondary prompts for the various schools. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress and hope to learn from others' experiences! GOOD LUCK!![]()
Hey,Wow interview at UNE already? Thats impressive. Do you know people at UNE? I briefly looked at their secondary and isnt there a question like "how has someone u known at UNE convinced u to come here" or something similar? If u dont know anyone how did u answer that?
I found that one of the harder secondaries along with MSU and PCOM which i havent finished yet. I got the easier ones done and almost done TOURO-NY.
When were u complete at UNE and what are ur stats if u dont mind me asking?
Ooops forgot that part! MCAT was 29Q. The competition in ontario is crazy though, I mean...UofT 's cut off last year was a 3.9ish....wayy outta my league. But honestly, I really fell in love with Osteo when I found out about it!. Did not even bother with any allo schools!. But hey we all got a chance so I am rooting for you! Hope we get in together somewhere! At least I have someone to share "being canadian" with!.Your gpa is pretty decent. Did you not apply to all ontario schools? You guys have the sickest set up, like 7 in province med schools. How was ur MCAT?
Hello other fellow Canadians! I had my transcripts done by Educational Credential Evaluators and I wasn't given credits for my Lab courses so I ended up 1 credit short on Physics, Organic and inorganic chem. They did a good job converting my grades even though my first two years was on the 9 point scale then it switches over to the 4.0 scale (im from the University of Alberta). For people who got their transcripts done through WES, were you given credits for your lab work? Thanks.
Hows it going Canucks???
Status updates? Last I Heard one of us had a UNE interview🙂, lets keep the strong presence up! Gotta rep Canada baby

just tourocom so far. U lucky with anything else yet? i'm starting to get complete at schools so it might be a while before i get any good news
When do you head to TOURO? I go october 20...

How long did it take them to confirm your essay and money once you mailed it? I just mailed it yesterday....so hopefully not too long. Also did you have all your LOR in before they let you schedule?? Im still waiting for my god dam 2nd science LOR lol
holy man has ur prof still not given u the letter 😱
yaaa it sucks! If i wasnt desperate I would send her an email telling her to go to hell for wasting my time. Unfortunately, I literally have nooo other options for science letters. My other classes all had 400+ people and there was no way of getting to know a prof (i tried at first believe me)
Im thinking about emailing her again, but I dont wanna annoy her. Its an awkward situation

I sent it via UPS (next day delivery). Got a confirmation roughly 3days after and an interview scheduled the very next day (via phone and confirmed by email). And yes they need to receive everything b4 they give u an invite. Your situation sucks🙁 but hopefullly this prof gets around to it!!! Try sending him/her a kind reminder, acknowledging that you know he must be really busy but that you are also on a time crunch here! GOODLUCK man! keep us posted...
oh ok nice. Well i just need this letter and Im good to go. I decided not to fill out secondary to MSU. Did anyone apply there? As soon as i saw that all your references needed to fill out separate forms (2 or 3 pages i believe), I thought "no thanks" cuz I know that will just be a huge huge pain the butt for me and the references.
I sent an email Friday to remind her to get her life together (essentially) but so far no response (it is monday though)
I bailed out on the MSU secondary too!! The evaluation forms are really annoying (as if someone other than family would really know you that well). Anyway, I bailed more so because of the TUITION--> $68,000!!! Are they frigging NUTS?! Its more than twice the amount domestic students pay! i.e $31,000. They trying to run their state school on our tuition..."NO THANK YOU"
dam it i got rejected my WVSOM today. Basically they played me lol. They told me they accepted Canadians (despite what sources on SDN say) so I went ahead and applied. LUCKILY, I didnt have to pay for a supplemental app and do any work cuz they are like TOURO-NY where you only get secondary if you are getting interviewed
On a more important note, any of you guys get your credit stuff figured out? Western contacted me saying that I have to deal with AACOMAS (as opposed to the admissions person at Western as originally stated)
Hey guys. I wish you all luck in ur application cycle.
Right now, I'm trying to complete my application and I did not know I needed a letter from a DO for many of the schools.
I'm in Toronto and I'm having a very difficult time locating a DO physician whom I can shadow and get letter from.
Could someone help me out? Or do I need to drive to Buffalo to shadow someone?
Just a few words about Canadian's and DO schools. I am currently a 2nd year at CCOM and was in the same situation as most of you. I went to the University of Lethbridge and had no problem getting in.
First, you have to make sure the school understands the difference in credit hours. We don't get 4 hours for a basic science class like they do. We just get the 3 and that includes Lecture and Lab. This is a must, if they don't know about this your application could be on hold and thats why you haven't received a secondary or interview. My interview at CCOM was not until March cause they though I had not met the credit requirements.
Second, the education in Canada is far superior to the education in the states. I came here and felt like most of my 1st year of medical school was a review from undergrad. Canada kicks the crap out of you in undergrad and then you get to med school and its no big deal.
Third, MCAT is not that important. Don't get me wrong, score as well as you can but esp. Osteopathic schools, they are looking for an excellent Dr. and not an academic whiz thats going to do amazing research and bring the school money through grants. They want someone who embodies the osteopathic philosophy of prevention, wellness etc. A good friend of mine got a 23 on the MCAT, not a very good standardized test taker, and is currently ranked 2nd in a class of 200 students.
Fourth, contant the school's student services office or admin office and see if there are any canadians at the school. I am one of two canadians at CCOM class 2013 and we would be more that happy to help people out, meet them for their interview and dish out any secret info we have. These ppl are your best resourse.
Fifth, make sure your immigration stuff is legit and in order. End of sentence.
Sixth, at CCOM, the Chair of Physiology is a U of Sask Ph.D, the Anatomy has a Ph.D from U of Alberta, the new dental school's dean is from Ontario, and the list goes on. There are a number of Canadian faculty at most of these schools cause they got their Ph.D somewhere in the states or what ever. You can usually check out their profiles on the schools website and find this stuff out.
Seventh, don't be cheezy in your secondaries. They don't care that CCOM has had over "100 years of blah blah blah." Every applicant writes that cause is some bull crap we found in an article on the web. Seriously, sell yourself, dont remind them about their school, be sincere and you'll stand out.
Eight, for hell sakes, don't refer to the step one of the Osteopathic boards as the COMPLEX!!! This is a dead give away that you know nothing about DO schools. Please spell COMLEX. The Dean on admissions, Michael Larkin, has told me that about 1/3 applications he reivews spells it wrong and that these people are then rejected. Its harsh stuff. 5500 applications my year.
Nineth, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I don't check this often but occasionally do.
GOOD LUCK> CCOM IS THE BEST DO SCHOOL IN THE NATION> NO QUESTION ABOUT IT> The newer schools are struggling to make a name for themselves whereas Chicago is the leader in most things.
hello canadians,
is anyone applying to PCOM? they have a requirement to get a "Letter
of evaluation from the premedical committee, premedical advisor, or the Dean of the college granting the undergraduate degree". erm, how do you go about asking the Dean of Arts and Sci at your uni to give you a letter for DO med school? i feel like they'd never get back to me.![]()

Confirmed about LMU. Emailed them last week- "no canadians".
I asked my dean to write my a generic letter that states everything that is already on my transcript. Things like - when I graduated, my program - majors, that I don't get into any academic misconduct...
Just send them an email. My dean was very helpful as they access to your academic records...
Interesting point you bring. that a guy with a 23 mcat can be at the top of his med school class. I assume he will do very well on step1? If so, it is hard to say if he became a much better student now that he realized his career is on the line or medicine just isn't nearly as challenging as people make it out to be. I mean there are some hurdles like anatomy. But the core of step1 -pathophysiology -is not the most difficult subject. But if you get 23 mcat after your canadian education then I am not impressed with your education...
who replied to your email? megan mars got back to me; i asked if they take canadians and she said there's a Canadian in the 2014 class. I don't like contradictory information 😡

Just wanted to point out that in Canada....almost EVERY medical school has an admissions average of 3.8-4.0 where as some US schools have admissions averages of 3.3. Also the average MCAT for acceptance in Canada is probably 32+. Thats how competitive it is in Canada to get into medical school. Oh and lets not forget the ridiculous extracurriculars you need.
So before you come on here and get chirpy with Canadians about how our education system isnt impressive to yourself, I hope you know that there is not a single Canadian who has attended university in both countries who would tell you American universities are harder than our schools. Even my American friends up here say UCLA and Stanford (they are from Cali) are easier than our school. You are lucky that in your country people can attend a university in the middle of no where and get a 4.0. That doesnt happen as much in Canada.
At the end of the day, Canadians are coming to your schools because they are easier to get into than Canadian schools. Its not the other way around. And Canadians always excel in your programs
I did not claim that canadian medical schools were easy to get into. Of course they're harder if you compare them to DO. But if a canadian ends up at Harvard he likely had acceptances in canada also. I only questioned the superiority of undergraduate education as alluded to by the previous poster. If he got a good gpa at his canadian school, he should've been able to get a high mcat. And we had a conversation in PM. You know that I did my undergrad at a canadian school and a masters in usa. I do not find the 2 educational systems to be much different. My gpa was higher in usa because I worked harder. My mcat was high because I worked harder. If I worked as hard in ugrad maybe I would've stayed there for medical school.
p.s. I can assure you that top ugrad schools in usa have much higher entering SAT than university of lethbridge or whatever school you went to. I attended canadian ugrad because I couldn't get into a top american ugrad. Not that I regret it, but that's the reason.
HEY EVERYONE, YOU ALL SUCK COMPARED TO CANADIAN SUPERIORITY.
Whether you meant to sound like a dick or not, you did. So far I have heard two haughty responses from the canadians. Drctother and maple, there is a hell of alot more than grades and MCAT's. Like tact for instance, guess they don't teach that in your Canadian undergrad classes.
Umm you should go back and read what these guys posted. Maple was saying the same as well. there is more to getting in than just gpa and mcat. but yes if you get a 23 on the mcat, you can say bye bye to getting into a canadian medical school regardless of how awesome the rest of your application is. Its sad that it is this way but its true. This holds the same for the top md and do schools in the US. 23 is very low. WIth the increasing competitiveness and more applications to DO schools a 23 will make life much much harder esp if you're a canadian.
As for the canadian undergrad class they teach you the content and they're good at what they do. The ins and outs of medical school admissions come through socializing with other ppl and profs in their office hours where they will have more time to actually advice you. Please lets not start a canadian vs us pre-med educational war now. This thread has useful information for uninformed canadians who want to pursue osteopathic medicine and I would request we all continue to treat this thread that way.
Thanks 🙂
Mmm tact... I am not trying to start a war, just maple claiming that CCOM is the BEST DO SCHOOL... please, the "best DO school" is the one that makes YOU the best doctor you can be, that is not CCOM for everyone. Little things about thier posts urks me. Like drctother making universal absolute claims about the performance of canadians in the US, LOL. The overall tone is condescending to all Americans, I'm sorry, but I have a bit of patriotism for the US. If it was brought about as you state it jaywalk, it would not illict gut reactions that promote a harangue back and forth. However, I digress. GL you guys.
