So I am nationally certified by PTCB and want to start working as a pharm tech in California. Do I have to have to be registered with the California BOP before I can begin working? I wanted to begin working right away but they say it takes up to two months after my check is cashed to receive my paperwork. So my question is can I work as a pharm tech with only my PTCB certification?

I'm in the same position as you, most jobs ask for your license and a clean background (which is typically done when you apply for your license). I've tried to apply while my license was processing (and still is) but haven't gotten any call backs.

Even with your license, it seems a little difficult to get a pharm tech job at the moment unless you're in a random area or have experience. Good luck man.

Most places prefer that you have a license. Though some might hire you as a pharmacy clerk if you are submitting all of the documents for licensure.

Yea, You'll be a clerk. Some places like CVS might pay for your license but you do have to get hired first.

my pharm tech license is still pending but I got hired by Target. There are some places that will hire you even though they know your license is pending. But most of what you'll be doing is register/clerk work. In CA by law, without the license there are many things you can't do so that prob discourages employers from hiring someone who is only certified.

My pharm tech license is also still pending, has been for two months, but I still got hired by CVS recently on Oct. 14, 2013. I told them my situation and I guess they were oay with it. My position is a Pharmacy Tech Trainee. Not sure what my duties are since I am going to start training this week. In my opinion, just apply to all the pharm tech jobs and tell them about your situation. Theres nothing to lose!
