Are LSU programs starting to accept DOs now? I remember looking at their residents back in the days and seeing lots and lots of IMGs/FMGs and no DOs.

Yes WCU has had many go to LSU IM in Nola and EM/ Obgyn programs in Nola and Shreveport, even had a Tulane IM and Oschner(New Orleans) a few years ago as well as other smaller LSU affiliated programs in Baton Rouge and Lafayette LA. Its probably due to many of our LA students wanting to return back home, we also have a rotation site in New Orleans/East Louisiana so that def helps.

Yes this years class was very much Gen surgery heavy, I guess the downside to that is less people applied to more of the hyper competitive residencies such as ortho/neurosurg/derm which we had last year, but that Urology match is nice as well(super down to earth and easy going dude) and Rad Onc in Mayo AZ is nice, but not sure how competitive Rad Onc and that program are tbh.

That IM match in NYP in Queens is amazing! If I remembered correctly they didn't take DOs before

Just an update. KCU had a 97.75% match rate. 98.89 placement rate and per the dean the three remaining are interviewing and will most likely match in the upcoming weeks putting it at a 100%.

UPDATE on NYITCOM-Jonesboro, AR
They graduated 97 students out of the ~123 (class size 115 but accept up to 123 I think) total that started the inaugural class (78.8% 4-year graduation rate).

Here is an incomplete match list for their inaugural class that I have manage to scrape off their Facebook page as they were posting them 1 by 1 today (graduation day). For some reason, they haven't posted the full match list on their school website. I will update if they post more matches.

Edit: I thought it was interesting that they haven't posted a single GS match yet since I've noticed many DO schools have had pretty long lists for GS.
The ones with * were military matches.

Nope they have plenty of DOs and IMGs in their program.
You're probably thinking of the NYP/Weill Cornell program.
Yea it’s not a bad/malignant prorgam tho but it’s DO and IMG friendly, they had some strong fellowship matches listed on their site

I am sorry about the mix up. I am still confused and generally have a hard time sorting out different residency programs under the same hospital/health systems. Thanks for clarifying everyone!

Interviewing? How/what are they interviewing for? Is this super soap scramble bonanza?

You’d actually be suprised how much this happens (happened a lot more in the past than now tho). I knew a KCU grad who match IM but wanted med Peds and after doing her intern year her program hooked her up with a med Peds interview at Georgetown “outside” the match and she was given the spot. Most likely tho these unmatched people are trying to work something out with infilled programs somehow.

Hmm, are these the superstars that didnt match competitive specialties trying to make something happen? Or is this struggling students trying To match into anything?

Do you really think that those are all categorical spots? Did WCU not have a single student end up in a preliminary surgery spot?
One of the UMMC gen surgery spots is a prelim, rest are all categorical.

I follow surgery matches very closely. As was said above one of them was a prelim and the rest categorical. Every match on that list outside of HF-Allegiance is to a traditionally MD program.

So yeah. Best grouping of GS matches WCU has ever had.

Actually 2 were prelims.

My bad, but still overall, 6 categorical Gen surgery matches for a graduating class of 98 isn't bad, the school usually only averages 3-4 categorical General Surgery matches.

Ah my source said Spartanburg was categorical.

It’s still the best GS grouping WCU has ever had lol. That’s how bad WCU has historically been at putting out quality GS matches
Hey, at least WCU is ranked 3rd nationwide by USNews:

Oh wait...AcTuAlLY WcUcOm iS rAnKeD 3Rd In PrImArY cArE.

This misleading article title was actually posted on their FB page lol

Funny cause my source said the SC match was categorical as well but who knows(they didn’t specify at the grad ceremony).. and yes it is prbly our best match list for gen surgery but they did have people match at these prorgams besides maybe UT San Antonio in years past, just never in the same year before lol.

LOL I don't really care what ARCOM does or what list they are featured on. I just wanna get my degree and get the hell out of there before everything goes to **** LOL. BTW I have nothing against WCU, I was just pointing out the misleading title of the article that they chose to post on their social media page. I even applauded that they were making improvements on their match rate and match list when you posted about it.

I feel you!! I LOL’d hard when I saw that on our Facebook page too, in all fairness though it was the articles fault not WCU’s for the misleading title, the interesting this is there is actually an MD school who is ranked higher than us in their primary care match % LOL. And yes I know you have nothing against WCU, the school has been improving but it’s par for the course for a relatively newer DO school.

Is the list of unfilled programs from the 2020 match in this? I have the official list from 2019 match, and I’ve been trying to find the 2020 list.
no he/she's referring to the program directors survey

What does it mean if a program has a lot of SOAP placements? That it’s undesirable, in a bad area or a sweatshop?
Can be all of those things. A few places I interviewed at had to SOAP, which also says they don’t rank enough candidates or not enough candidates want to be there. (A program I interviewed at says they interview like 70 a year and rank maybe 20...)

Thanks...just glancing through data for places near me and noticed a spot that had to SOAP most of their spots.

I wanted that info because I’m a mediocre candidate and want to strategically include programs that had to SOAP when applying.

I’m a first year but I’m keeping my eye on programs near me, because I’ll be applying in a small geographic area. Always good to know what the programs close to home are like! Also I took a LOA so I may be doing the same come match time.

Might be one of the best GS matches of all time if it's real honestly.
I'd speculatively put all my eggs into the basket of it being UPMC Mercy (which has 1 DO in it) vs Presby (no DOs).

That was my assumption too. Presby would be in the running for one of the top DO matches of the entire year.

So I count 97 placements per this graduation ceremony (Trauma Research Fellowship is not a residency match).
The graduation program shows 105 graduates
This would indicate a residency placement rate of 97/105 = 92%
Is that correct?
Count again, it’s 99 placements after taking out the trauma research fellowship, I believe a few of the people who didn’t place didn’t apply for the match this year and were taking a research year, I just didn’t bother to put that they were taking a research year on this list. So 1-2 people didn’t place after trying in the match/soap/post soap. If you count the people who graduated but didn’t even apply for the match then it’s not an accurate placement rate. For example look at that LECOM list, you can see how there’s a bunch of people who didn’t “participate “ in the match due to various reasons such as taking a research year, LECOM isn’t going to include them in their placement % lol
