sincerely sorry to re-ignite this thread but im honestly interested to see how this played out haha does anyone know what ended up happening?

To everyone reading, this happened over a year ago and OP has most likely moved one.

To answer your question, I have no clue what happened. However, the engineer below OP had an interview from a school he turned down several years back (SDN logic would dictate that he shouldn't have gotten an interview).

So I will state what I have seen through the years reading the responses. There have been several instances on here where DO acceptances were turn down and said applicants got accepted into MD (oh and yes DO schools also). However, these are a small handful (but more than anecdotal).

However, you have to remember almost everyone approaches this process as "one in the hand is worth two in the bush." We advocate the risk adverse approach because it takes a lot of effort, time, and money to get into medical school. So why waste years of your life pursuing those "two in the bush." As I mentioned in the example above with my friend, he had a several birds in the hand but wanted that large turkey of an MD school. He pretty much let go of his acceptances to pursue the dangerous route of a post-bacc and nearly lost game dearly because of it.

This is not to say your chances are nearly zero of getting accepted again. It is more to say is it really worth it to spend extra years of your life and at a greater risk of not getting in again to pursue a greater opportunity. Delaying gratification for too long can hurt you in the long run, a very important lesson that should be learned sooner than later.

Not obsessed with letters, but rather concerned with opportunities later in my career. Additionally, the MD school I'd apply to is half the tuition(my state) if this particular DO school. Also, I moved pretty far from home - about a 24 hour drive.
Either way, I want to be a physician. I've never cared abut he two letters, but directors of residencies may.
If you are wanting to be a physician then just go to the DO school. I personally like the philosophy of DO schools more that MD, but I believe MD will provide more opportunities for neuropsychiatry. Does anyone know if that is the case? Also, OP - DO physicians are very well respected, I have asked numerous doctors about it.

US MD will provide more opportunities in all fields except for a few of the least competitive like FM and PM&R where the opportunity is similar but you should still go US MD regardless because it's hard to know what you actually want to do before starting med school and it's best to keep all the doors open.

Go to the DO school you got into man. You won't end up regretting it. If you do well in school you'll match well and be way on your way to being a physician.

Don't waste a few years of your life and thousands of dollars to pursue MD. The difference isn't worth it, and as some of the above posters have made apparent, that path is far from a sure thing.

Is OP talking about applying to MD schools THIS current cycle? I personally don't believe that OP's stats are strong enough to get in this late. If OP is referring to possibly deferring the DO acceptance and applying to MDs next cycle then that's different. Not to be mean or anything just being candid.
