No coffee in class?

Caffeine pills?
I went to the Mercer interview in Oct. I could give you some very valuable information.🙂 Maybe a one on one practice interview? 😀
As weird as this sounds, how about a South SoP Facebook group?
Attending class does not equal the best use of your time. Our best academic performers from last semester rarely went to class.

Talking about NAPLEX pass rate, which is all that matters for us obviously, I thought I'd do some digging for the benefit of discussion and came up with some numbers:
All 2008
South
77 Candidates with a 93.51% pass rate - 72/77 passed first time
Schools with a lower, or roughly equivalent, pass rate to 93.51% include:
Philadelphia CoP (90%)
Duquesne University (94%)
Florida A&M University (87.59%)
Hampton University (88%)
Long Island University (92.45%)
Mass. CoP Boston (91.45%)
St. John's (89%)
Texas Southern (93%)
University of Louisiana at Monroe (93.33%)
Xavier University (83%)
Food for thought.
Good call. I was using South's historical average: 91.10%
You forgot University of Puerto Rico: 83.51% Being from PR I could tell you this: The pharmacy profession in PR=terrifying.
I should've added the line: "This is not an inclusive list" because I actually left off a few schools. I felt that list was sufficient to prove my point.
I do wonder if some day, Pharmacy school will be like Med school in that all the folks with 2.8-3.2 GPAs will have to go to the Caribbean for their schooling.
With all these diploma mills popping up, they won't need to go to the Caribbean. The fact that you can nowadays get into a reputable pharmacy school with a 2.8 GPA is within itself terrifying.
The only reason South U has high Naplex rates is that the school is self-selecting. They already pick the students who have top PCAT scores and high GPAs. These people are already highly motivated. Also, they have a huge reason to want to study harder and pass the NAPLEX - which is the fact that they will have a ton of loans to pay back since the school charges $9000 per quarter.
SouthU does not prepare its students to pass the NAPLEX. Most of the crap that we learned in class was forgotten by the time we took the test since we had already been on rotations for a year. Most of us were well aware that the APha test prep kit that we used would help us pass the test.
Also, about the plagarism from the faculty - I will definitely try to see what I can do with ACPE and their accreditation. I have saved all of my old lectures and it appears that most of my teachers had plagarized.
If you want to go to South U, that's your problem. I would just make sure that I would get as many opinions from 2nd and 3rd year students and former students before making any decisions.

You're the stupid one for putting words in my mouth. I didn't say that I'm upset. All I said was that SouthU is not the reason why students pass the NAPLEX. If students really want to prepare themselves for the real world, they should go to another school. I was blown away by the amount of material that SouthU did not teach me.
This is not a legal argument. Take what you want from these posts. I'm just letting you know that South University is not a pleasant school to be at.
Damn you South U! How dare you take a bunch of kids with... "top PCAT scores and high GPAs".
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying the school is not responsible for the success of the students. The students are responsible for their own success. SouthU does not prepare its students for real world applications of pharmacy.
As someone who has already been through pharmacy school, I think that I have a lot more credibility than you.

I agree with the original poster. South University is a complete waste of money. I graduated from this ****ty program and can attest to the fact that the program did not prepare me for real life. I could go on and on about how terrible the program is, but I will leave you with the following:
(1) The school treats the students like children. They take attendance in classes every hour and they do not let the students eat food in class.
(2) The faculty are *******s who are too arrogant to admit that they are capable of being fallible. Two of the highest ranking faculty members are the biggest *******s and they will kick out those students who dare to challenge the integrity of the material that the faculty has been teaching.
(3) The teachers constantly have double standards. They plagarize repeatedly btu they rebuke students who have items in their papers that may seem similar.
(4) The school only cares about your money. I can honestly say that I was not prepared for the board exams, well at least not by the school. The school claims a 96% pass rate on the NAPLEX, but that's because the school has already self-selected its students (why else would they only base their admissions criteria on PCAT scores and pre-pharm GPAs).
Again, there will be more posts to follow. This is not just from me, but from others as well. I really hope that South loses its accreditation as it is not a legitimate program (especially since they ripped off the program from more established 3 year programs). Save yourself the money and stress and go to another program.

Cool list! Where did you get it from? whats Mercer's passing rate? Does UCSF have the highest rate?
And the "BEST" award goes to UC San Diego, with a full 100% NAPLEX first-time success. Bear in mind, though, that it's only 76/76, so if you compare it in scope (which is very important), it kinda loses some of its "wowsers" effect.
Mercer 2008: 130 candidates, 99% pass rate. 128/130
Mercer overall since 2004: 682, 94% pass rate. 641/682
UCSF 2008: 130, 97% pass rate. 126/130
UCSF overall since 2004: 641, 99% pass rate or 634/641
So really pretty equal in terms of first-time NAPLEX success! But, of course, UCSF wins because it's in California and only a few short square miles from Neiman Marcus =-)
Oh, source is:

It must be the same as getting lower than a 75 on the PCAT. The NAPLEX and PCAT are highly correlated with each other.I can't quite imagine sitting for NAPLEX and failing it. How embarassing that's gotta be...

Well, now you can have more confidence in yourself with regards to the NAPLEX. How can your passion for science fail you? 🙂Well, I'm glad I have one of them out of the way, and I did well on the PCAT! But I don't know, the NAPLEX just seems so intimidating to me. Maybe because it's so far away...
