They might. They also might ask about your dog, your hometown, your university, eating habits, hobbies, family, favorite music or one particular class you took five years ago. Be prepared for anything! Nothing, really, is off the table. Honestly, even "forbidden" topics usually aren't all that forbidden because usually the applicant brings them up either in person or extensively in their application. Forbidden topics being, of course, health issues, marital status, religion, etc.

Yeah, they could definitely ask you why you decided to major in whatever major you choose. I mean, I got asked why I took random French Literature classes, so I'd say your major is definitely fair game for discussion.
I don't think they would make you "justify" your major, though, or imply that you should have majored in a science (which is what I think you were implying with your original post). Taking the pre-reqs show you can handle the science, your major just shows what you're interested in.

If you majored in something other than science, they may ask about it, but not as in "why not science?" They will ask because they find it interesting, maybe, or they want to see if you are enthusiastic about your basket weaving degree...
Really, you should hope that they would ask you about your studies. Jeez, talk about a softball lobbed right over the plate. Would you rather be asked hypothetical ethics question, or if you were a tree, what kind would you be?

Yes, I have had it asked before. In order to get to know you they throw a long gamut of questions at you.
Why did you go to X college?
Why did you pick this major?
What was your favorite science class in college? Why?
What was your favorite non-science class in college? Why?
What was the best class you took in college? Why?
All of these questions came up in my interviews, so you should be prepared to articulate an answer to them.
