I'm taking a class to be a dental assistant and it's almost over so I need to apply to jobs soon. To anyone here who has worked as a dental assistant: do you get drug tested, either at the interview or randomly? I didn't really find a straight answer online. You can be as judgemental as you want, as long as I get a straight answer.

Depends on who’s hiring you. Some screen, others don’t. Some only do it once during the hiring process, others may pop randoms.

It really depends on who your employer is. I was working as a dental receptionist for a corporate dental and didn't get drug tested.
I worked as a dental receptionist in a private practice and still no drug test
I'm currently a dental assistant in a private practice and no drug test.
But I will say that they will do background checks, and some may do fingerprinting (just to make sure you're not psycho I guess?)

I'm sure you'll do fine. I usually offer to volunteer if they aren't considering employing me.

Most dentists are so cheap they dont want to spend the money to drug test you as long as you can hold a suction straight

I never got tested.

I also never did drugs, I should clarify.

Ask the employer. Also tell him "you can be as judgemental as you want." You will get the most straight answer as you want.
