Does 2,3 BPG bind to myoglobin or is it only to hemoglobin?

To the best of my knowledge only Hemoglobin binds 2,3 BPG.

Myoglobin doesn't exhibit cooperativity b/c it's only one "subunit", whereas hemoglobin has 4 subunits...

Myoglobin's O2 dissociation curve is hyperbolic whereas Hb's is sigmoidal... this means only Hb exhibits allosteric coopertivity. 2,3-bpg decreases the affinity of O2 by stabalizing the Tense state (vs. relaxed state.)

Hope this helped.

BPG works by binding in the space BETWEEN the subunits in hemoglobin. Myoglobin has just one monomer, so BPG cannot possibly affect it.
