Does psoriasis itch?

Secrets (p 31) says that it doesnt, First Aid and other sources ive used say that it does... which one is it? thanx

Thanx . I just bought the new edition of FA step 2 today, and you are right it does say that psoriasis doesnt itch. However the older edition of FA step 2 said that it does itch (p101). Im glad I got the new one...

Well, you got me curious, so I just looked up CMDT 2006, and one of the Essentials of Diagnosis for Psoriasis is - "Mild itching (usually)."

Yes, of course, because we all know that patients read the textbook 🙄

I think it's a matter of determining how prominent itching is as a symptom, psoriasis may itch a little in the question, but unlike an exzematous dermatitis the patient won't be scratching their skin off and you should get a description of the classic silvery scaly lesions

Ive seen several patients who have experienced mild itching, a few with severe itching. Im sure the itching wont be the buzz word but the description of the lesion and the location.

A member of my immediate family has psoriasis. It is mildly itchy but not a constant sort of thing. Very, very mild. Sort of like a dry skin sort of feeling that you notice when nothing else is going on. I don't think this helps for the boards but more for your info.

funny guys 🙄 I can too spell. I knew it looked wrong when I typed it, but was about to roll back to the OR with a pt and couldn't fix it. 😀

Anyway, I still stand by what I said, psoriasis will be identified by the classic lesions in the classic locations, elbows, knees, scalp, genitals, and psoriatic joint and nail findings. They can't just give you itching.
