I recently interviewed at Howard and Meharry. However, my stats are really low.

MCAT: low twenties
AMCAS GPA: 2.7

The information that I have gathered from SDN implies that if an individual receives an interview, he/she is competitive. Is this true? Do I actually have a shot?

technically if you have received an interview you are on a level playing field but your mcat and gpa are quite low which could be concerning to both howard and meharry. I tend to be a pessimist so take what I say with that in mind, but you have not shown that you have mastered your science and overall college coursework. You have either struggled through or not put enough effort as you could. Either way that is a red flag that you will do the same in medical school. Although you received interviews you have a high chance of being waitlisted and then encouraged to complete their post-bac program. So that is the pessimist/realist talking.

On the other hand I do not know your full application. You could know key individuals at these respective institutions, or your LORs could be absolutely steller. Perhaps there was some tragedy that occured in college that I don't know about but that HU and meharry know about. Perhaps all of these things will play into you getting an acceptance letter, but I would plan in case it doesn't via: letters of intent to the schools, thank you cards to interviewers, second looks if available, and research into post-bac programs in case things don't go as you would like.

The fact that they invited you means they know that your stats are low, but you still have something to contribute to the school and the profession. Please practice for your interview because this is what is going to make or break you. I did not go to Meharry's interview because I made up my miond by the time it came. As for Howrd the interview was all about you, and that is your time to wow them. Please look over your AMCAS and your secondary to HOWARD make sure you know what you wrote. Do not sound practiced and be confident you are at the front door. Good Luck :xf::xf:

You're probably a shoe-in. I read somewhere that Howard accepts roughly 60-80% of the people they interview. Add the fact that you were granted an early round interview means they must see something in you and your application that they really like. I know they tend to be more lenient than other schools if you have a low GPA or a low MCAT.

An interview at Howard/Meharry means that you have a shot at acceptance. Neither school accepts every person that they interview so don't think that you are a "shoo-in". I wouldn't say that the "playing field is level" with an interview but I would say that you have a better than even shot.
