Opinions neeeded!!
Hello, I am currently a senior at my high school in Stillwater, Oklahoma( Class of 2014 ) My desire is becoming a pharmacist. 🙂 I am also enrolled in a vocational school. This year I will be doing pharmacy tech at this vocational school. ( Also called Meridian ) So I will be going to high school for half the day then meridian. And when I am done with Meridian I will have my pharmacy tech license. ( Which btw these classes are free ) After I graduate high school I will be attending a two year pre-pharmacy program which will be at Oklahoma State University. Once I am done with that I will be applying to a four year pharmacy in Weatherford, Oklahoma. I was wondering if this plan sounds good? Also if their is any suggestions will be helpful to my plan of study that will help me out a lot. I am eager to become a pharmacist. I know it will be a long journey, but I am willing to do the hard work. Their is nothing else I invision myself doing. Thank you for the comments 🙂 And also if you could share your experiences of your education that will be extremely helpful too! ( By the way this is my first post on this website!) Haha I'm a newbie! Anyways thank you! 🙂

I would really really like a reply!! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Opinions please!🙂

Sounds like a start. After you get your tech license try and get a job to get a feel for what you will be doing. You have plenty of time to figure it out.

You definitely have a great mindset and plan to become a pharmacist! Only two years for a prepharm program is not very likely going to get you into many programs unless you "stand out", which means you need to have the whole package of good gpa/pcat/extracurriculars/pharm experience. I dont know for sure about SWOSU, but I am applying to OU and 72% will have bachelors degrees when they enter OU pharm school. I am not trying to discourage you but it is a lot of hard work to do very well in your science classes, study for pcat, do extracurriculars, and also be a pharm tech I think you said as well all in a period of two years. It is definitely possible but you might also want to consider at least 3 years or even get your bachelors, college is a great experience and you only have so much time when you are young. OSU is a great school too and good luck to you in your journey🙂 any questions feel free to ask

Just out of curiosity, you know you can enroll at 6 year pharmacy schools too. right? why don't you consider that way too? Your plan seems solid but if you really want to get into pharmacy school within 2 years, you musta accelerate pace of finishing classes.. currently many schools are asking a minimum of 60+ credit hours..and even more. Make sure to utilize your pharm tech license... try to work at hospital..you may have a great experience not only at outpatient window but also at inpatient and supply.

This might be very odd thing to recommend but joining military with pharmacy technician occupation might be another great choice for you. You may be able to take classes while serving the country. If you have ever thought about this part, please PM me, i'll help you as much as I can

Good luck on your pharm tech license exam and graduation(?). I like to see your progress 🙂

Thank you for your reply!
Isanders, Swosu requirements says I need atleast 58 accredited hours of pre pharmacy to apply to their pharmacy school which of course can be taken at OSU 🙂 and I know that the Pcat needs to be taken too with all that jazzz. And that's cool 🙂 I was considering going to OU for their pharmacy programs aswell.. but I'm more of a small town girl so SWOSU will fit me perfectly 🙂 I know it'll be a lot of hard work! But I know I have the ambition to do it! Anyways good luck to you with OU 🙂

Yes, I know I could enroll into a 6 year pharmacy program. But I rather do the pre pharmacy program at OSU because it is in my home town 🙂 I don't want to move out just yet. but anyways thank you so much for the reply 🙂 Wow, the military sounds like a great idea! I may consider it! Haha I am not quite sure what your status is in your learnings but I wish you the best of luck too! Message me if their are any other details I need to know! Thanks for the reply!

Thanks! I'm sure you'll do well just wanted to give you more of a realistic picture. I also thought that most people just do the 2 years of undergrad and then 4 of pharm school, but it is quite the contrary, it is a competitive field to get into and more people then ever are getting their bachelors first. If you haven't asked talked to the director of recruiting at SWOSU I would highly recommend it and see what they have to say about it, because the director at OU said they hardly let any people with just 2 years in undergrad but the students they do are outstanding in all those areas i.e GPA, PCAT, EC, and pharm experience. You seem to be well ahead so you might be one of those future students! haha good luck!

Wow thank you so much! I feel a lot better knowing that my future could be a great one!🙂 Good luck to you too! If their are any other details I should know or if you would like to talk about your experiences just message me or whatever! anyways thanks a lot 🙂

A great number of pharmacy students are chosen from those who complete their pre-requisites from that school, so completing pre-pharm at SWOSU would be ideal, but not really necessary. Have you spoken to Lyanna there at SWOSU? If you keep up this enthusiasm and excel in pre-pharm you will have no trouble getting in.
