Hello, I'm 27 and doing postbac informally in a city college.
I graduated in 2005 with 2.65 gpa/134 credits in Biochemistry. After working as a dental technician for four years, I finally realized what I really want and decided to go back to school in last year. Basically I retook pre-reqs that I got C or C+. My post baq gpa is 4.0 with 26 credits and I'm taking 14 credits this semester. I'm planning to take DAT in December aiming for +22 in average. But with my 2.65 from the first degree, my overal gpa is barely above 3.0 after upcoming spring semester. I'm dissapoined.. and want to know what can be done next so that I don't wasted another time.

work experience
Dental technician with a certification (4 years)
worked in dental office (2 months in junior year)

any comment would be appreciated.. thanks in advance..

Hey, you are doing a great job! keep it up! dont get discouraged! I was in a somewhat similar boat and I just pulled an interview so there is hope. Some schools will look at your last 40 hours to see how you have changed, and you have a 4.0 so far, and clearly have experience in the field. I also feel you on the age thing, Im turning 27 in 2 weeks. Id say what is important is to get good rec letters and talk to folks at the school you are interested in... f the school is close to where you live even better. See if they have seminars you can attend and so forth. Meet with faculty, talk to students.

There are people every year who get into dental school with 3.0 GPAs. If your personal statement and interview is strong then you WILL be one of those people. 4 years as a dental technician is a huge plus!

I sent emails to admission officers in local dental schools a few days ago explaining my situation and asked to evaluate my status. Only two among those replied :(.. One just mentioned about the average GPA of their accepted applicants (which crushed me once again.) and the other one just wrote me to call them. I havn't called them yet but I'm afraid if my reality would be more harsh than i assumed as they evaluate. I know it's a stupid thing to write here. but where else can i take this out..:T

You would be applying for next cycle, so you arent really a priority for them right now. These are the busiest months for them, so you should eventually get more responses, or feel free to call once you have rocked the DAT in december.
