It's probably not a good idea to post that I'm a pharmacist already and just helping out others with info but it's whatever. (plus it'll teach you guys not to trust anyone on this board)

adu322: You shut up liar! You are not a pharmacist. You are not only condescending , you are also dishonest. Your Profile says you are a pre-pharm. What story are you gonna come up with this time? You called the moderator a "ghetto boy" cos you saw on his profile picture that he is black. That says more about who you are than about anyone else. I really hope you never get into any pharmacy school because people like you should not be pharmacist.

I studied for months. Read the entire kaplan book. Really learned the biology and chemistry BEFORE taking any practice exams. I studied for the verbal by taking many practice exams and writing down and memorizing every word that was unfamiliar in all of the multiple choice answers in all of the practice test questions. I also used synonym.com to search the words I didn't know to come up with a family of words that had related meanings.

Really don't want to wait 5 more weeks! This was my first time taking the PCAT and the last time. I feel very confident but due to a low pre-req GPA i NEEDED to dominate. Math was my only real concern, I had to fill in a lot that were too time consuming. I know I missed a few on the other sections but that doesn't bother me. No one is supposed to make a 100%.

However, anyone know how the percentile scoring is exactly worked? What if this test had overall higher scores and they were compared to 2007 average scores? I'm a little confused with the scoring...

Did you find the Kaplan book helpful for the PCAT? Thankfully I didn't have to take the PCAT in 2006 for LIU. I hate standardized tests. I hear Dr. Collin's is where it's at for Verbal and Bio.

LOL you think I called him ghetto because of his picture? Or are you saying I said that because you think his picture is ghetto?

I clearly stated I'm just trying to help people out and this is a fake account, so yeah, it says pre-pharmacy. What's your point?

If you don't think I'm a pharmacist, then test me.

You guys are stressing out over nothing. I would call that guy ghetto for having that avatar too. You guys are getting trolled, welcome to the internet. Also, ADU you don't have to respond to these messages... you don't have a reputation at stake, who cares. Also, why are you in this forum since you haven't taken the PCAT.

P.S. Kaplan book was awesome. Really don't want to wait 5 more weeks...

Helping out a friend who is applying to schools...trying to see if Kaplan is better than Dr. Collins. I've heard Collins is better but more expensive.

Damn, kid got banned for helping out a friend....and messing with others lol...some people need to relax...life's too short to cry over trolling.

My only question is why did it take so long?

The problem here is that he trashed a thread that may have been of some interest to people who actually took the test or who have real friends (not fake made up excuse ones) who are interested in what others thought of that test. Notice that no one posted any further thoughts relevant to the subject after he started his silliness. Maybe not the biggest deal if there were tons of threads on the subject of the Jan PCAT but there aren't.

Also, there was nothing in this thread that showed he was actually interested in getting any info about studying for the PCAT other than his last statement/excuse and odds are that was just BS. At any rate, it doesn't excuse the behavior. He edited his earlier comments, but he earned his ban in my opinion.

Verbal: it was alright
Essay: Easy
Bio: tricky but fair
Chem: Need more time
Math: good but need more time
reading: easy

I took the PCAT in Oct and thought that the test in Jan was a lot better, for me. I was able to finish each section with a few mins to spare to review my flagged items.

However, the math will ALWAYS be a struggle for me, so I just try to get through it. The main lesson I learned from the October test was not to get stuck on one problem and learn to flag it and move on or you run out of time.

Needless to say, the test wasn't too bad, here is an overview on a scale from 1-10, 10 being the hardest

writing: 4
verbal: 5
bio: SUPER easy 3
chem: 6
math: 7-8
reading: 4
writing: 5-6 I think the second essay was harder than the first essay. Had to make sure you answered all parts of the question, which was tricky.

so does anyone know how the composite score is made?

i've heard a lot of things...

is it completely relative to the scores from this specific test? or is there an average grading scale and if scores are really high or low on average some sort of correction distribution?

"Are my scores derived by comparing them to the other students who took the
exam on the same date as me?

Your percentile rank scores are based on the current norm group each time
you take the PCAT. The current norm group is defined as all first-time
examinees who took the test between October 2004 and May 2007. Your
scaled scores are based on the number of live items that you answered correctly for each subtest. Each multiple-choice subtest is calculated
separately." - Copyright © 2011 Pearson Education, Inc. or its affiliate(s). All rights reserved.

what makes the math section hard?

The math section isn't hard. It is difficult to be able to complete all calculations in the allotted time. There are 45 questions that you have 30 min to complete. Just make sure that you are familar with basic algebra and your statistics( mean, median, mode, & range). That should get you a 50 percentile. The rest will be simple questions that you really have to guess at an answer due to lack of time. There is a little calculus but not much.

I just went through and did the questions that I knew I could do quickly. If I saw one that I knew that I would not have time to do I marked it to come back to last. By the time I got through the first time, I only had 6 or 7 to go back and finish.

Thanks for the info UofAHogs. For the calculus part, would I see a word problem in which I would have to come up with my own equation? Is geometry also included ?

Everything is fair game and to be honest, we are not supposed to be specific about test questions. If you really want to get a good idea about what to cover on the math sections, go get some study guides. Kaplan has one and I think I got one at Borders for like 20 bucks. Especially if you can find one that is going out of business right now. Just work through some of these and doo the practice tests through Pearson and you should be fine. I would suggest taking it as early as possible so that if you don't do well you still have another chance. Also the sencond time was much easier for me. You understand how to manage time better.

If I could really give you one peice of advice it would be to find some full length practice tests and do those while timing yourself. That is the hardest part of the test. The first time I took it, the proctor called 5 min left and I still had 25 questions left. The second time I was finshed before time was called. Practice, Practice, Practice
