I've wondered why it is that DO's aren't more associated with treating back pain/problems etc.
I'm in Michigan, which is a big DO state. And I also know many people that go to Chriopractic as a result of back problems and lower back pain in particular. This is a result of not being satisfied with traditional modalities of treatment.
To me, it seems natural that DO's would fill a special niche in this capacity. OMM should (I don't know too much about it yet) offer some techniques to treat spinal misalignment and lower back pain etc., while the DO's can also offer the traditional treatments for such issues such as pain killers, muscle relaxants, and perhaps even surgery if necessary. It seems like a no brainer to me.
I can't tell you how many people, just at work, that have complained of unrelenting back pain (not debilitating in which case surgery should be serious option). It seems this would be a niche for DO's.
