Double or Single Spacing

Hello,

I'm sorry if this question was asked a lot of times, but I could not find the answer.

When you fill out a secondary application and you're required to write one to one and a half page essay (or an answer to a question), do you use one space or double space, and 12 size font?
Also, if you need to paste the essay to a webpage and it says that you need to write one page essay, what will you use, double or singe space?
