Is it legal to have two state residencies?

Is it legal to have two state residencies?
So I need to pick one?
Anyone else had the same experience?
That's something I want to know too, since being a CA resident seems to be a hindrance when applying.
If you can have dual citizenship for countries, why can't you have dual state residency 😕
Hmm, the problem is I seem to qualify for both.
I've spent almost 15 years in CA, definitely qualify that one.
For the other state, I emailed one of the schools, and they emailed back saying I seem to meet the residency requirement because:
"At least one parent, step-parent, or court-appointed guardian resides in ________."
I personally have never lived in the state my parents are in, but they have lived there for a year and own a house and everything. I'm currently registered to vote in CA, I wonder if I can change that over to the other state.
Hi guys,
I'm a little confused about residency.
I'm from CA, am going to college here, but my parents moved a few years ago and are settled in another state. I will be applying during the gap year, during which I will have a job, so can I still be a dependent of my parents'?
If I still am a dependent, how will residency work...the state they're in does say that having a parent live there for a year qualifies as residency. So does that mean I get to be a resident of both states? That doesn't sound right 😕

I believe on the application you can only claim one state residency and put only one permanent address. Do your parents file joint-tax returns with your mom's address or both addresses? I know a school i applied to in NY wanted me to prove my residency and they asked for my PARENTS federal and state tax forms, a lease, and MY license and my voter registration. I don't know if this info helps much but if the school u want to go to is in texas, then by all means put TX as your residency w/ ur dad's address. How much does it help to have residency status anyway for the schools ur applying too?Okay, so what about my case?
My parents are still married, but they live in separate states. We have a house in a certain state, but 15 years ago, my dad moved to Texas to work. He has a Texas driver's license and a Texas license to work in his profession; he doesn't have a house in Texas, but has rented a place there.
My parents file joint-tax returns, and I am claimed as a dependent for both of them.
Does that enable me to be have 2 residencies or at least I can get a Texas residency?
Talk to a law firm.
