I'm currently at a CC taking Calc 2. I got a 40 on the first exam, and a 68 on the second. My professor is infamous for having extremely complex exams with hairy problems. At this point I am seriously doubting that I'll be able to pull of a B in this class. If I drop this class and take a W (and this will be my second withdrawal so far) will that look bad to Dental Admissions even though it's not a pre-req class? Also this will drop my course load down to 13 units, does that look bad? I do plan to retake this class in the spring.

One more question: I dropped Geography my freshman year with a W, and I have no desire to retake it since it's not for my major. Will Dental Schools wonder why I did not retake that class?

I'd drop, and not think twice about geography.

Just drop the class and take the W. You want to protect your GPA as best as you can and two Ws WONT hurt you as long as you focus on keeping a high science GPA, particularly BCP (bio, chem, physics).

And as long as you are a full time student dropping to 13 units wont be a problem.

Also, DS wont care that you did not retake a geography class because it ultimately is not that important. The orders of important for deciding factors are listed below this. this is just my opinion of course.

1. Science GPA
2. DAT Scores
3. Overall Cumulative GPA

ALSO NOTE: Since you are in community college some DS wont accept pre-req coursework (mainly the science portion) from community colleges because of the stigma of it being easier. Hope you arent too far in and best of luck to you.

Okay thanks guys, I just dropped the class. I feel pretty relieved right now for some reason.

I'll be taking every pre-req at my CC except O-Chem. If I could avoid it I would, but because of the agreement between 4 years and CC, I am required to take Gen Chem, and Bio at a CC if I want to transfer. But won't I be okay for most DS if I do well in upper division science classes when I transfer?

You will be fine for most schools. I know there are 2 or 3 but the only one I can think of atm is Tufts.

Drop the class and retake. Everyone has on off semester so just dont let it get you down.

Drop as many as you want. As long as it's not a prereq or any upper level class recommended by dental schools you are fine..

If I was on the admissions committee I would raise a few eyebrows if I saw someone with multiple withdrawals.. This doesn't sound like the best advice. However, in OP's case, a withdrawal was probably the best option. I certainly wouldn't make a habit out of it though.
