Are drop grades detrimental to our chances of being accepted into dental schools ? On our academic transcripts they appear as DR and no letter grade is designated to the course taken, but I'm wondering if institutions evalutate them and count them against you. I currently dropped my Calculus 2 class this semester and am curious to know i it'll have any sort of negative impact on my application process!!! Any input would be greatly appreciated ! THANKS !

it won't kill you, but you don't want to have too many =)
i think i have two (for history which i dropped one day late doh, and econ which i decided not to do as my major)...
you will be fine.
good luck!

Dacosta,

Stargirl is right, you definitely do not want too many of those on your transcript! "DR", huh? I've never heard of that. If let's say that's the only "DR" you have on your transcript, be prepared to explain that "DR" to your interviewer during your interview. Dental schools will definitely ask you about that "DR". Especially if you only have one, cause it will stand out. Also, I'm assuming that your "DR" is most likely equivalent to the more common grade "W" for withdrawal, you have no worries.

hehe no one has asked me about mine yet.... sigh let's hope my next interview doesn't either :)

Thanks for your input guys ! Thus far, Cal 2 is my only drop, and I'm planning on taking the course during summer along with the KAPLAN review course. Initially I wanted to designate the whole summer period for DAT study, but unfortunately that won't be the situation. My GPA is hovering around a 3.63 and I'm beginning to stress excessively, should I be sweating bullets, or is that common for pre-dents !?

Dacosta,

With your good GPA, I dont think you have to worry about too much. Just do well on the DAT and apply early, I think you should be able to get into most of the school!! No problemo! Good luck!

dacosta, you really need not worry...actually your worrying is pissing me off...3.6 and applying to dental school...chill out dude :p <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Whoa nelly! I feel a bit relieved thanks 2 you guyz !! It's support like this that's gonna help us all achieve our goals in becoming dentists...The next step is the dreaded DAT...Hopefully, I'll make it my bitch and spank its ass ! And Vixen, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being nervous and wigging-out - it'll actually make you perform better during critical situations.
By the way, congrats Yah-E on your acceptace to Nova. I live on Miami Beach which is a couple of minutes from Nova, and you're gonna love it !! It's summer all year-round, girls in bikinis rollerblading, the nightlife... What else could u ask 4 ?

Dacosta,

I'm not sure if Nova is one of your dental school choices or not, but if you ever need to talk about the school or if you want to come to the school and attend some classes with me next year, you're more than welcome! I'm sure that I will be able to introduce you to some important personal. Good luck on your DAT studies, it sucks, but it will all be worth it.

I am extremely pumped about Nova and Fort Lauderdale/Miami. I'm still looking at beach properties for rent, I'm determined to live on or by the beach.
