I'm a post-bacc student. This semester I'm enrolled in ochem 2 & lab, Bio 2, physics 2 & lab. However, I'm considering dropping physics2+lab. I'm doing well and feeling very confidently in ochem and bio (got A's in ochem1 and bio 1 last semester), but I am feeling very beat down by physics 2 so far. On top of that, I didn't do too hot in physics 1 last semester, getting only a C+.

Should I drop physics, considering my academic load will be very light without it (5 units from ochem, and 3 from Bio)? I could try to enroll in another course, but I believe the deadline is approaching fast, and also, at this point many classes have progressed very far and it'll be a pain to enroll and catch up. I'm just very concerned that with the demands of ochem, bio and my work outside of school, I'll end up getting a C (or god forbid, worse) in it this semester.

Of course, I'll have to take physics 2, but I aim to do so next fall or spring, or the fall that I apply to dental school, when my course load is a little lighter. Has anyone else done this? How will dental schools look upon this?

Thanks for the help 🙂

I also do not like physics, mainly because it's a hard subject for me. If you don't think you can handle it, you probably can't. So drop physics 2 and get A's in ochem2 and biology2. Why make your GPA suffer? Good lucks!

Does anyone know if dental schools care about the order in which prereqs are taken? For instance, If I took physics 1 in Fall of 2011, but did not take physics 2 until Spring 2013, is that weird?

They do not care (I'm pretty sure they don't). As long as you get the pre reqs done before you enter dental school you're fine.

What are peoples thoughts on me taking only 8 units this semester I drop physics.
As a post-bacc, I only need to take the core pre-req sciences and have no other "filler" classes I can add. I'm stuck with taking ochem and bio.

Is the low course load a bad thing?

My guess is that getting a C in physics is worse than getting A's in both ochem and bio this semester...?

What happens if you get into dental school and you"re taking 5-6 classes a semester?Schools want to see that you can handle the heavy workload actually. If you cant handle 3 science courses in one semester, then dental school might not be for you. Put your mind to it and work hard. A C here and there wont kill your app. Keep in mind that your outcome on the DAT will weigh heavily on your app as well. Good luck with your decision
