Duke Part III - Can't get enough :)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha... it makes me wanna go back and reread our old threads to relive the good ole days of freakin out.

Who is going to organize our intramural basketball and softball teams?

I come back from vacation and we already have a new classmate?!? Woohoo!!! Congratulations, Husky! I really hope you'll be joining us in a few weeks... but I suppose we won't hold it against you if you don't. I know it's a tough choice, but judging from what you've said, you can't really go wrong either way. Good luck with your decision. :luck:

When I got back, not only did I have my Duke parking permit waiting for me in the mail, but I also had my first bill from the Bursar's Office (always nice to see "Amount You Should Pay At This Time: $0.00") and the e-mail about registration and about half a dozen other lovely e-mails. Guys! It's really happening! Med school is starting in just a little while!!!

I like to play basketball occasionally, but I'm probably the most unathletic, uncoordinated person on the face of the earth (yeah, so I'm not going to go into surgery, that's for sure). I definitely wouldn't want to humiliate myself or the med school by trying to play competitively. 🙂

I'm moving into my apartment on July 21. Definitely up for an SDN lunch/get-together whenever people head into town. Okay, time to go back to packing. Fortunately, I never unpacked after I graduated two months ago, so this should be easy.

😱

I hate you. 😉

Haha, well, I did leave out the part right above it that says "Med Fed Sub Stafford A - $4250" and "Med Fed Unsub Stafford A - $14000"... and that's just for this semester. So don't hate me yet; at least wait until you meet me. 😛

I enjoyed seeing the negative number on the bill that's our "refund" for living expenses. I try really hard to forget about the origins of said "refund" and how much it will cost me in the future.

Now that we're done with all the tedious online safety training, loan counseling, and telling fifty different departments our local address, who's pumped for the field trip a week and a half?!

:raise hand: I'm ready for the field trip.

Embellis, you know I love you. 😍

So... white coat ceremony... how long do you think it will be? Also, what happens? Would it be worth it for my parents to make the four-hour drive down to Durham in order to see it?

What happened for us was that during the day of we spent most of 2 hours or so arguing within our dean's groups about writing our own "hippocratic oath". Then during the ceremony we all got up and had our dean put our white coat on when our names were called, then after the whole dean's group was finished we said our "oath" in front of everyone. Overall it prolly took about an hour or two? I really can't remember. Then we partied. White coats + various other garments that weren't necesarily "professional wear".

I'm not totally sure it's worth a flight; a drive, maybe. My parents drove 45 minutes but some flew across half the country.

Mine are flying across half the country... but I mean, I doubt anyone here is surprised about that one. BTW... where the hell is Burns. I'M IN DURHAM AND SHE'S NOT ANSWERING HER PHONE. Maybe she doesn't want me to move in anymore... :scared:

Heh, thanks. I think I'll have my parents take a pass, then.

I like the attitude of posting to get the second years' attention instead of calling them. 👍

Here's to hoping you're not still homeless...

Haha... ya I think she must be out of town still. It just sucks cuz my dad is all like "Where is she?" and I think I just realized she told me she was coming back today instead of yesterday so really it was my bad and my dad will prolly find out and then lecture me about being responsible or something... 😴 Gotta love the ole parents, aye? 😍

I guess the waitlist officially closes next Mon. Does anyone anticipate any late movement at Duke? I recently heard that for the entering class of 2005, 4 students got in off the waitlist the day before classes started. Maybe there's still hope for us waitlistees??

That's an unbelievable statistic. Talk about overwhelming. I would probably wet myself if I got in the day before classes started. I agree though, there's still hope for us.

:luck: :luck:

Has the field trip schedule gone out yet? All I've heard is just a general idea of what's going on, but nothing specific like where to meet and times. I'm a bit concerned as from the stalkerbook postings, it seems several of us will be moving in town the next few days and without internet access....

Nope, no news about Saturday, although if anyone needs internet access, feel free to stop by here and borrow some of ours. 🙂

i really hope your stat for 2005 is true and will happen this year. it'll be like winning the lottery.:luck::luck::luck:

Zomg, kids, see you on Sunday! Hope you have a blast at camp-out, and here's hoping someone gets some great news on Monday! Embellis, I bet you can guess which blonde-headed pretty-boy is your big bro. 😀

Also, when you get your 'puters on Monday look for a few e-mails from me. I'm sellin' my books. Pagemma's gotta eat.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just got a call from WashU. Got in off the waitlist. I'm not going to be joining you guys after all. I also think my wife will enjoy STL more than Durham. Wish you all the best!

How do you have 2 little sibs?
Because I'm goooood.

Well, on the initial list FCD wasn't on there and I recognized DrDurden's name, so I signed up for him. Then I told PM about it and she put me down for FCD, and I said if she needed me to take 2 I would. So she kept me with two. I don't mind sharing them with you... 😉

Hahaha, excellent, although it's too bad we won't be able to see you until Sunday.

So, that reminds me... did I ever tell you guys about this one girl told me that he was the only hot guy she met at Second Look? (Clearly, she was a bit shallow, and clearly, she's not coming to Duke.) Anyways, I mentioned that he was my interview host, and that prompted someone to mention that at Second Look last year, a certain someone had hooked up with a certain someone else's soon-to-be big sib... only to start dating that certain someone else shortly thereafter... but that's neither here nor there. Just a fun story I thought I'd share. 😉

See you kids soon!

I can neither confirm nor deny those rumors. Nor can I confirm nor deny that said someone else is currently dating a certain someone's tall and goofy ex-roommate.

Hope you had fun today! See you tomorrrroooowwwwww.

Congrats, JM! Enjoy St. Louis.

Whoa... so how come I only got half the story at the bbq??? I got to be there for the ex-certain someone else for this certain someone who was standing right next to me, but I didn't get to meet that ex-certain someone else's goofy ex-roommate. Come on people... I need to be in the loop.

How's orientation going guys? I'm guessing due to the lack of posts that you don't have your computers yet?

We have the computers (and the headphones and webcam and flashdrive), but fingerprint locks and LotusNotes are confounding many of us.

I personally have had enough hamburgers to last me a month, but am enjoying it all so far. Is it a bad sign if we're all already sick of the walk from PG3?

They're making you guys use Lotus Notes now? Ugh...it's the most awful e-mail program ever. We used to get the Duke undergrad e-mail accounts instead, which you could use Outlook or other e-mail software to access. There's also a web-based version of notes which is easier to use (http://notes.duke.edu).

Happy orientating! 🙂

I can't decide which smiley is more appropriate: the :scared: or 😴. Guess we'll find out soon enough....

LOL... I was actually deciding bt those same two emoticons plus the one I ended up using. I think 😴 😱 :scared: might be the best all around feeling. Followed by :hardy: and  after tests.

OK... well it looks as though this thread has officially died. I wnat to say an official goodbye to anyone, thanks for all the good memories, and see yall around 🙂
