Welcome, j dizzle! If I remember correctly, I sat at your table for lunch on the first day of Second Look. Your wife is blonde and gorgeous, right? 🙂
That's my wife!😍

Haha, that is good to hear that others are like me, J.D. and Pagemma - I'm planning on doing a lot of the "home-study" course myself at Duke. It took me forever during undergrad to get over the guilt of not going to class until I realized that if I spent the same amount of time just studying the online lecture notes and reviewing I'd be a lot farther ahead. I don't know - there's just something about lecture... after 17 years of going to class, my brain just automatically goes into shutdown mode. I didn't go to biochemistry all senior year and it turned out fine.
Ryan, I have faith something will work out for you in the end - we never know what's planned for us, and sometimes the way things end up are far better than we had ever hoped.
Unfortunately, no they don't. That would be cool, though.Hey - does anybody know if Duke offers any sort of music downloading service at a subsidized rate? My undergrad offered discount subscriptions to Napster which was a really cool service.

I can help you with #1 at least. The White Coat ceremony is in the evening...I believe it was around 7pm last time with a reception to follow. Oh, and most 1st years last year arrived sometime the week before campout/orientation.Hahaha -- Why is this forum more happening than the c/o 2011's? 😛
If you don't mind, I had a couple questions:
1) Is the White Coat Ceremony in the morning, afternoon, or evening of August 3rd?
2) When are the rising first years arriving in Durham?
Thanks~

Haha, well you may not be missing out on anything since I think they canceled campout (thanks to drinking at the last two). Have you called Richard Wallace and asked him about any movement yet?Campout !!?!!?
Man, am I missing out! Any news on those 3 slots that we decided might be open?
Well, I saw him at school yesterday at least.I think RW's on vacation.

Also, apparently there's no campout this year for sure but there is a day trip to Asheville. Sounds fun! Also, good luck, Ryan!
Do a lot of med students participate in the campout for basketball tickets?

P.S. You must change the font color of your sig! That sort of color is tantamount to blasphemy as a Dukie. 🙂

Ra Ra Ra Waitlist!
hey y'all~
just wanted to say hi to everyone because i haven't been on SDN recently.
I haven't been on because I'm out of coutry (I am having a blast), but I guess the Duke thread kinda slowed down in last week or so.
I am very curious about those three spots as well.
How's everyone's summer? Going well, I hope? 🙂
I know we're over this now, but I had to post this Scrubs quote I heard last night because it's better than studying:
Dr. Cox: Morning Class. As residency director, it is my pleasure to have both surgical and medical personnel here with us today. In fact, in this room we have enough brain power to light up a city. Not a real city, mind you, but definitely a tiny ant city whose government has recently passed a series of stringent energy-conservation laws.
Is it tomorrow yet?

goddamn
exam.
Thank heaven I have good music and a pending thunderstorm to get me through.
Just do what you always do and sleep with the bartender. I'm sure he'd throw in an extra coupon.Don't get me started. Not only that, but it was a $5 drink coupon and the drinks I usually get are like $3.50. Sheesh.
DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
holy crap, this calls for some bananas! FCD, where are you when I need you???

hey guys,
I am freaking out right now cos I just realised that the due date for completing the immunization was June 30th and my blood test results for Hep B and Varicella won't be here til the next 2 weeks. Is Duke really anal about these deadlines. Please let me know, I am really stressed right now.

BTW, there will be no staying over night on the camping trip. The doctor is correct, the vans will be heading back later at night.
*is f'ing annoyed that they scheduled the pelvic exams BEFORE figuring out who would be going on the "campout" trip*
Sorry 2011, you'll have to wait for some other event to meet me.
Lunch no good. We'll be in OCY from 8 am - 4 pm like every day. ObNOOOOXious. But whatever, we get to poke each other with needles. Sweet.
Am sure there will be parties a-plenty starting to get lined up v. soon. Keep your e-mails open.
Oh man, it's really happening: course registration just opened up.
And everyone, great job smacking down those Yankees in the Yale thread. 👍 👍
Ah, I see your other school is UAB then -- an excellent school as well. I was choosing between UNC and Duke (so this is a similar predicament). Hmmm, there is a significant difference in cost of attendance between the two schools (were you in-state at UAB)?
Thanks for replying! So I am not in-state for UAB but they did offer me scholarship money so cost-wise, UAB is the cheaper option, in addition I have family in Birmingham which is another level of support. But it's duke!! i am very very greatful to be posed with this choice, but basically I only have until the weekend to decide.....I like both curriculum a lot, but feel maybe UAB would be slightly less intense...but I was head over heels in love with Duke at one point in time, especially the third-year...i am completely torn, so any advice/words are greatly appreciated.
