being from california isnt so great. getting into the schools is just as hard as getting into hopkins, harvard, duke, etc.
Yeah and all the schools in TX except Baylor and UTSW suck hard.

UF would be better off if it wasn't in Gainesville. In 30 years, I think UCF's medical school will be the flagship medical school for the state of Florida.
On a different note: I asked this earlier and nobody responded so I'm trying again:
Does Duke pay for any of the travel expenses for the second look weekend? (It's right around the corner, March 30).

On the other hand, it makes me happy when I see people on this forum who are so grateful that they got in anywhere
I mean, US allopathic is one of the harder roads of life, right?
EDIT - Don't get me wrong, UT-San Antonio wouldn't be my top choice....but if you want to do primary care and you care about debt.....

Yo, so hopkins, ucsf, or duke...? the one that gives you the most money?
lol, status quo for me is rejections, so I feel a sense of impending getting my ass rejected one more time.
Wow, This whole method of sending out acceptances before rejections is a really cruel method. I was reading back on Harvard's thread from last year and they sent the rejections first, so at least they didn't have to speculate every single minute.
I thought it was confirmed that everything was being sent at once, and that acceptences will be sent all week.
OK, I just received confirmation: the last of the acceptance letters went out yesterday at 4:30. I repeat, "acceptance letters." They are not sending waitlists and rejections via bulk 3-5 day service. Everything is mailed via the regular 2-day US Postal service.
most of us don't know and are waiting for any news...
quickest answer: call Aron (sp?) at admissions (919-684-2985) and ask over the phone.
Wait... can we really do this??? Is that allowed?
I think he meant ask about the 2nd look details. 😉
yes - JohnMadden was asking about Second Look. i was replying primarily to that issue, not to admissions itself.
For some reason I feel oblicated to use a smiley face of some sort every time I type something on this thread (or any thread for that matter). It adds character. 😎
Then how do you puncuate something that really needs it? 😕
With a thumbs up, too! I love it!
I actually just got into the emoticons within the last week. I'm trying to break in easy.
Did I mention that beneath my mild-mormon-mannered exterior I am going positively INSANE to hear something?
Browsing through the earlier pages of this thread I caught something about beards, but I didn't really bother to get the whole thing....
So are we growing beards for the first day?
Funny story: At BYU we sign an honor code promising not to have beards. Mustaches=okay, beards=notokay. I'm not really sure why, it's not that we think beards are evil or anything. The idea is to look very proper and conservative, I suppose. Anyway, my PI was a really cool guy and we regularly got together with the other cool systematics PI for dinner, parties, etc. Dr. Johnson (the other PI) has a brother-in-law who works in law enforcement in London. He told Dr. Johnson that there was a critical shortage of men with mustaches for the digital lineup. We ended up having a mustache contest with a six-week growing period followed by judging day from the Women in Biology-type club. My lab won, then Dr. Johnson supposedly submitted all of our mustache pictures for the digital lineup in London.
I guess that's what we do instead of drinking at BYU...
for those of you who were accepted (congrats), do you mind telling us what your PAS status pages say?
I just want you all to know that not all of the acceptances have been sent out yet. Trust me, this info comes from a reliable source (i.e. ADCOMM). Don't lose hope just yet. There may be enough room for ALL of us! 😀
supposedly last year duke accepted 200 students to get 100 students enrolled in the 1st year class. does that mean that they initially only accept 100 and fill in from the waitlist as candidates decline? or, do they initially accept slightly more than 100 since not 100% will accept? this wait is awful!
two more days and then the rest of us are rejected? This is heartbreaking.
My permanent address is at home because mail here isn't really reliable...so, everyday promptly at 12:00, my parents call me to tell me there wasn't a letter in the mailbox. I can't even tell them to stop becasue that's what I want. Med school really brings out the masochism in all of us.
Does anybody else just about throw a clot when they refresh the Pre-Allo thread page and see that the most recent poster in this thread is somebody new?
didn't intend to send anyone to the hospital🙁 my apologies

No news? No rejections, no waitlists? If they were sent on the 7th, somebody in Durham must have heard by now. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're not giving us the whole picture here, just to keep the horde of crazy premeds from smashing down their doors or something violent to that extent.
It's not a letter
A fortune (from a cookie) is neither a letter nor an email. But I understand your misunderstanding. I'm freaking out, too.Wait, waitlists are emails?
