early case rejection

Sorry to hear that. It's interesting that the first person to report an interview invite from Case is Michigan wolverine while the first person to report rejection from Case is also Michigan wolverine.

Man...I am sorry too..
I knew Case as well as Indiana and Nova start reviewing fast, but this is a lot faster than I thought.😱 I am just hoping these 3 schools would hold my app until my second DAT.

Did you just receive an email from them?
When was your AADSAS app mailed out?
Are you retaking the DAT like me? ..man...

Man, that sucks. I've heard that they're one of the faster ones, but that's incredibly fast.

Has anyone else (who applied to Case) received a "information package" about the school from them by mail?
 
Does it state your status on AADSAS since you've been rejected?

I got a letter signed by the Director of Admissions. AADSAS sent out June 16th. I imagine they just looked at my GPA/DAT and that's all she wrote. I'm not retaking the DAT unless asked to do so by one of the schools to which I applied.

Hey that is better than what they did to me last cycle.

They invited me for an interview in Feb. - after spending 500$ on airfare and hotel arrangements, they told me point blank after 2 separate interviews "I'm sorry, it seems like you really want to be a dentist, but we are out of seats. Our class is full".

It took a tremendous deal of self control to restrain myself from hospitalizing that man. They could not have told me that BEFORE I spent my hard earned money on airfare and hotel?? I was a student...I had to scrounge for that money.

Do you mind posting up your GPA and DAT scores?

I'm regretting applying to Case if they solely accept student based on GPA/DAT since mine are sub-par.

Wow that is crazy your DAT is so much better than mine. Just curious were you in the first mailing? just wondering when I will be getting my rejection since my DAT scores are so much lower
 
i think i was in the 2nd mailing (june 16). also, we have similar EC's.

You're an in-state applicant, so I think your odds are going to be a little better...
 
correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't case a private school?
 
I got the immediate rejection as well. Sucks. I too have a low GPA....that was probably it.

I agree..It really seems like Case has an automatic cutoff for GPA but DAT. I could be wrong..

Call Case Admissions (or talk to other SDNers who have applied there in past years), and they'll flat out tell you that they have more stringent requirements for out-of-state applicants. Yes, they're a private institution that does not "technically" give preference to in-state applicants, but since they are private, they can do whatever the hell they want. This includes setting a higher bar for out-of-state applicants.

I remember reading several posts where a few SDNers (non-Ohio residents) had spoken to someone at Case admissions about their chances, and Case had said something to them along the lines of "your GPA/DAT scores are too low for an out-of-state applicant". The preference for in-state applicants might not be as extreme as it is at say UNC, but based on the evidence, I'd say it's still there...
 
I just looked on predents and it looks like there's already people who've been offered interviews at Case and UConn. Wow. This cycle is getting started quickly.
 
for those of you who got rejections did you also get an information packet before the rejection???

Don't be too discouraged! Case has been known, like many posters have said, to look at just the numbers and reject someone. Case receives A LOT of applications, and it seems they sift through these applications with these cutoffs. In fact, and this may not be the best example, but last year on predents, stats-wise, Case had some of the highest GPA and DAT averages of people accepted on December 1st (or November 30th). The numbers went down a bit after that date as more and more people were accepted.

However, we all know that your application is not just about the numbers. Don't let one school discourage you! You'll get attention from other schools since all of you have strong DAT scores and ECs.

And rollredroll, being a wolverine in Ohio ... that interview may not have been as fun as you'd think 😉 anyways...so you're not missing out on much!
 
My AADSAS was sent out June 23, received on June 26, and got the information packet from them on June 30th. I have not heard anything else from them yet. Good sign, bad sign, or are they giving false hope? 😳
 
I would say that no news is good news. At least you aren't rejected yet.
 
Let's hope you're right. I too had my app mailed out on the 23rd, but no sign of receipt or of rejection.....yet. 😎

Yes, I did get the information packet several days before my rejection letter.
 
You're better off without case.

While I can't speak for the faculty/professors there, the admissions committee/representatives don't give a damn about anyone -- they don't care because they know if you aren't one of the future students, there'll always be someone to take the spots they have left.
After speaking to one of the representatives and getting nothing but attitude and being sent a feeling like I wasn't worth their time, I honestly can say they will never get a penny from me come time for applying.

Its funny you said this La Dentista - I remember calling Case to verify they they received my DAT scores. After requesting the person on the other end of the line to check my file for me, I received a rather short, irritated tone back. That tone miraculously got much more pleasant after the lady came back to tell them that yes, indeed they had gotten my scores and were looking forward to my application :laugh:.

However, this incident aside, I enjoyed my interview at Case - I interviewed with the admissions director and he was very pleasant and easygoing. The changes they have made to their curriculum seemed to me, a sign that they really cared about the education of their students. And, their pre-clinical labs and clinics were top of the line. They are just starting up in research and were very interested in the fact that a interviewee had research experience. I however, cannot speak for the faculty (although I did interview with another professor who was drilling me about why in the world I would want to go to Case over my state school). Anyways, my point is that Case certainly is a school worth considering if you are looking for a school that can provide a stellar clinical experience - don't let admission representatives bias you from the rest of the school!
 
The office staff at Case is a little snippy. However out of the 3 schools that I've interviewed at in the past my Case interview was the most pleasant and laid back. Both interviewers were really nice. But I can understand how someone could get upset with them if they give you attitude over the phone.
 
Just got rejected today. I'm so disappointed but life goes on =] 24 more schools to go!
 
I am not rejected, I am on hold. I have to retake the DAT......should I do it? I have no idea.
 
I just got a letter in the mail saying I was rejected nothing on AADSAS. When I was opening I was excited thinking it was an interview because ppl the week before got one with similar stats but o well hope I get in somewhere else

Hey! sorry to hear that. I agree with you that your stats pretty similar with those who got invites earlier. I don't know why..do you have any idea why they had to reject you?

man..I am in the same boat. Got the snail mail today and they are waiting on my second dat because I checked future dat on my aadsas app?? when is your retake? good luck!

I called Case and had to leave a message yesterday but they never called back so I might just call again next week. But I will be real mad if I would have gotten an interview if my application was in the first batch of applications because then the blame is completely on my undergrad univ it took them 2 and half weeks to send my transcripts!!!! But no big deal I dont think Case was the correct school for me anyway kinda just applied cuz it was private and close.

my application was mailed out 16 june but i havent heard anything from case. I got the broucher stuff dated 20th june sayin they received everything. Jus wondering if i should call the skool monday and ask them??
 
Yea im in the exact same boat as you. my AADSAS was mailed out june 16 and i received the brochures in the mail june 20. i think we should just wait it out. I heard Case is snappy so i dont know if its a good idea calling them, or else you might get that rejection letter earlier than you think 🙄
