Is this program competitive? or is it better if you have a lower gpa (as in a better way to get in?) Not to sure about it.. anyone? 😕

Normally you need to atleast hit the averages of the previous year to have a chance at EDP

yup. generally it's not terribly more competative than regular admissions, but it's not any less competative either.

Unless you are low on money for the application process, I think its really discouraged. If you don't get in, you are at a big disadvantage because you are quite late for the admissions processes at other schools. Plus visiting the schools really changes your mind, both for the good and bad. I find it easy to get excited about every school I visit. And you never know: you might get lucky and get money from a school.

I disagree. It doesn't really put you behind in the cycle at all. In fact, most schools that have EDP don't eve start considering regular decision applicants until after the EDP program is over.

if you get everything in at the earliest date possible and not just early, you might even get interviews before edp applicants. and your first acceptances might come in october.

So generally, If i was to choose EDP, I would be a lot more likely to get in if i applied right away. Is there any ways to go to see the school before the interview date?

sure, just call their admission office and ask for a tour.

i dont think this is the case. my earlier post was in reference to regular admissions. with edp, i dont think it matters much if you apply super early or not because the whole application process for edp is early anyway. but early even for edp is probably a good idea.

I think it is interesting. EDP seems to be a big mystery to everyone. I got in EDP and I don't come near the average numbers for my school. There must be other factors. I wish I knew what they were so I could share.

The situation is different depending on the school. At less prestigious state schools, all you need to do is real really convince them that you want to do something aligned with the school's mission (ie become primary care physician). Getting a 27/3.3 is good enough to get through med school. I am NOT saying this is a great competitive score. It's high enough to show that you probably won't flunk out of med school. More prestigious schools will tell you that very competitive applicants should only apply. I don't know exactly know why, but they probably want to lock in the superstars. U Michigan told me I should have at least a 37/3.6 to competitive in their EDP program!

Yes, I have been told my numerous people that you need better than the school's average stats to be considered for EDP. You have to be a definite shoe-in. I know many people that got rejected from a schools EDP just to get accepted during the regular decision process. Good luck!
