I'm applying to medical school this year for early decision. If I'm notified that I AM ACCEPTED by October, can I still apply to other schools after accepting admission the early decision school???

No...

Early decision means that you 100% want to matriculate at that school. Why would you put all your eggs in one basket if you don't even want to go there?

If you don't definitively want to go to that school, don't apply early decision. Simple as that.

Easy. It's an in-state school that accepts 95% in state students, and applying early decision only increases my odds. So besides knowing "why i would would want to do this"...is it still possible?

No, you can't. The whole point of EDP is for students who know this is where they want to go. If accepted, you cannot apply anywhere else.

Don't be stupid

I have a question in general. If you wanna apply ED to some school, that's the only school you can apply to, until you get an offer of yes or no, correct? So basically, would you be at a disadvantage unless you knew 100% you were getting and you wanted to go there?

OP, I've been told by an assistant to the Dean of Admissions at a med school that you can apply to other medical schools after being accepted through an EDP, however you forfeit your guaranteed seat in the class. Most importantly, it is extremely frowned upon because you have not honored a commitment you made to the medical school, calling your word and judgement into question.

great question op, I take it that access to google is unavailable to you as well as the search function.

advantage= you get accepted early and save some money on the app process.

disadvantage = if you get rejected, you won't know till October which is pretty late to apply to other schools.

Applying early decreases your odds actually, unless you are well above average for their school.

Most definitely, not. The school im applying to receives close to 150 early decision applicants, accepts close to 30. Compared to picking the rest of the class out of the remaining 5000 that apply there.

AMCAS is quite clear that what you are proposing is off limits. If you have any intention of applying to other schools, then you need to withdraw your EDP application and apply to them.

From the AMCAS Instruction Book:

Early Decision Program (EDP)

[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]All EDP applicants accepted by a medical school must adhere to the tenets of the program. Under these circumstances, application to other schools is prohibited. ..[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]Any violation of these conditions will result in an investigation. ..

[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]Medical schools agree to notify EDP applicants of admission decisions by October 1 and to defer applicants to the regular applicant pool if appropriate. .

[FONT=Arial,Arial][FONT=Arial,Arial]Didn't you have to sign/state that you read the instructions before completing your application? I'm pretty sure I did. .

If you have any question about this, don't apply early.
