Hey all,

Was wondering what everyone thinks if you apply for Early Decision and they bump you to regular admission. Anyone know anyone with luck getting into that same program even under this circumstance?

Also, what do you think my chances are?

Anyways:

I'm assuming that you applied ED to Oakland in which case I would think that there is still a chance you'd get in there. I believe that it depends on the criteria that they seem to be most important. Did you speak with anyone at OU prior to applying ED to find out what makes an ED candidate competitive?

From my experience as a non traditional student:
Last year I applied to OU, CMU and GVSU was denied at OU and GVSU and placed on the alternate list at CMU. So this past spring I contacted GVSU and CMU to see what I could have done to improve my app. The advisor at GVSU said that she couldn't talk about my app with me due to my missing the 3.20 min GPA. I had a PTCAS cGPA of 3.18. She also showed me that stats for the class of 2015 and the average cGPA and pGPA were both over 3.7, the AW was 4.0 and the v and q were similar to yours ( i don't remember for exactly). Never really had a good experience with GVSU even as a possible undergrad many years ago. My experience with CMU was totally different. I met with the Graduate studies advisor Mr. Fitzpatrick and we went over my app in detail in terms of where I fell in the grid system (points based on different factors). BTW the discussion was very relaxed and comfortable. He also discussed recalculating my GPA due to my undergrad degree was from 2003. So my recalc came out to be 3.74 for the last 75 credits. I also found out that of the 48 total spots only 10 were available to the general app pool. He took me for a tour and made me feel great about CMU. I never contacted OU because after I met with CMU that is were I wanted to go. The people have been great and the facilities are too. So I applied ED to CMU this time around and got in.

So my advice would be to contact the schools you've applied to and start asking specific questions. I don't have experience with any of the other schools on your list but I'm sure a good search on here will provide help. I think a lot was written about UM Flint for this past cycle. I wish you the best of luck. This is a time that will try your patience but be strong and things will work out.

Thanks for the reply!

I attended all of the meetings for OU as I did go there for my undergrad, and know the admissions chair fairly well. I was under the impression that an alumni student applying for ED had a better shot than others, and that my stats were not much different than most, perhaps a little on the low end. My references and extracurricular work all were related to the school, so I suppose I was a little bummed out when I got the "not as strong as others" email back.

I was just wondering if anyone else ended up making it back in that same program through the regular pool. But, I am glad your experience ended well, and I guess the old saying is true, "squeaky wheel gets the grease." Maybe I'll just have to start pestering!

Well, under normal circumstances, you would get into UM - Flint for sure... Im currently a 1st year there and your stats are a ton better than mine were! As an early decision student, I really couldn't tell you...If your concerned with simply 'getting in somewhere' I'd say skip early decision because I'd be shocked if you didn't get in to UM - Flint personally... (just make sure your essays are top notch on your application though! An few typos or flaws in your essays can make the difference sometimes!) Good luck bud!
