Hey,

I just found this forum...its great, nice to meet you all 🙂

I think I really messed up BIG time. As it stands now I have taken BIO 1/2, CHEM 1/2, MATH 1/2, PSYC 1, ENG 1, PHY 1.

I have gotten...
-B in CHEM
-B PSYC 1
C+ in CHEM 2
A- in PHY 1
the rest are all c's except for BIO 2- D and MATH 2- F....

To tell you the truth school was not hard at all. I dont understand what is going wrong..I mean I do study before tst's and show up to every class, but I am lazy. I have completed around 30 credits, and i gues 90 more remain until i get a bachelors of science, which I intend to complete even if Im able to get into either pharm/dental/optometry school.

Im just wondering, as it stands now my grades look pretty awful...how many of you have actually jumped back by getting 4's and high 3's in your remaining semesters ?

Those classes in which i got a D and an F were due to my laziness; they were somewhat easy, however just time consuming.

I know there are no excuses for bad grades, and considering the easiness of these courses, I should have strictly gotten A's, but since it is my "first" year, does the admissions comitee "forgive" students ?

thanks

If you show an upward trend in grades they will probably be more forgiving...

Your GPA is probably around where mine was when I was about 30 credits into undergrad. I was having personal issues, I didn't put the time I needed into the classes and my grades suffered. I ended up taking a year off of college and it was the best thing I ever did. If I would have stayed my GPA would have become unsalvageable. With that time off I realized how badly I needed to complete my education. I came back to college rejuvinated and motivated... I pulled my cumulative GPA from a ~2.5 to a 3.6 by maintaining a 3.96 GPA over the last three years.

They do recognize an upward trend in grades. I didn't have any issues with getting into pharmacy school. Got offered interviews to all of the programs I applied to, interviewed at two and got accepted to both. You have to turn things around now and prove to them that these grades are a fluke. Maybe take some time off, assess if this is what you want to do, and find a way to make yourself motivated.

That's about where I was in my freshman & soph year. I'm not sure if school's are forgiving.. I'm in the process of applying now and I guess I won't find out until next year!

I did pull my grades up though in the next 3 years with gpa of ~3.5.. but my cumulative gpa is about 3.05. I did reallllyyyy bad the first 2 years. You'll just have to work to get those A's to show the schools that you've got what it takes. That's how I feel anyway.

Good luck 🙂

Its difficult for anyone to guess where you will be in terms of this year's application cycle. Finish out the rest of your pre-reqs with a "kill" attitude - focus on what you can do to improve your app. If you dont get in this cycle - continue with your BS, but also retake any D or even C in chemistry you may have. Keep posting on where you are - this forum is an awesome resource. Simply search and post - good :luck:

You want to show that you have changed and that you will not be lazy in pharmacy school. By showing an upward trend in your grades, that helps to alleviate some concerns. Though some schools have academic forgiveness for classes you fail, they all will know and will consider your struggles in the first years.

Alright...but guys, its sooooooo hard... no matter how hard I study, my teachers will always put something almost impossible on the tests/midterms!!

Also, from some of your guy's comments, how can you guys do so well (3.96, 3.5 GPA) after you messed up on the easy stuff...dont higher level classes get harder ?

i took the pcat as a self-assessment to determine what classes i needed to retake before moving forward. ended up retaking bio I and II and got A's in both (received C's originally). since then i've had a 4.0 every semester and will finish my B.S. at the end of the summer...finally.

But did you get any D's or F's ?

lurkerkat, that is awesome- very inspiring!

yeah for those who did not do well in lower level classes / basic stuff, how did you guys do so well in the other prereqs/upper division classes? I seem to always get Bs, without much effort, need to really focus to get some As this year 🙁 but I have animal phys, anatomy, organic, much more difficult than genchem/genbio (received Bs in both), so I don't know what I can do to prepare myself and get As in those classes!

not in pre-req classes, but yes.

Keep in mind that at my two schools at least, that I had to have a minimum of a C in EVERY prerequisite class. I'd retake all classes that you got a D or F, as well as every C to show that you do have the aptitude to do well in a science-based career.
