So I think I'm planning on taking four ecology or ecology related classes for my bio major. I plan on taking mammalian anatomy and a cellular mechanisms class my last two semesters but how will it look to have many ecology classes? Will med schools see that as an easy course load or will they not care? I hate that people say ecology is easy when it really depends on who's teaching. I find it interesting, sometimes even more interesting then cellular bio, and one is related to diseases so I hope they don't think I'm picking these classes because of the misguided notion that ecology is easy.

I'll be honest, I'm always less than impressed when I see a transcript full of these as compared to someone who's taken a course load that's more like medical school.

But you should take the courses that interest you the most, rather than trying to impress an AdCom. You can do the latter when you have your interviews.

I don't think any bio classes are looked down upon. I took lots of ecology and marine bio because my physiology degree was in the EEMB dept and had plenty of interviews. You'll be fine but I do recommend taking biochem and genetics and working hard for As.

If you take Biochem and/or Genetics, then you can take as many Intro to Pedicures classes as you'd like without an adcom to question your capabilities.

Aren't your capabilities tested with the pre recs? To me, if you did well in them (especially Organic) they shouldn't question your capabilities based on what classes you took

Most schools like to see some success in upper level sciences since that's what is pertinent to a medical school curriculum. By all means, take what you enjoy, but realize you'd be better served take Biochem, Genetics, et al. Gotta play the game.

Technically yes. Unfortunately since medical school is becoming more competitive, they like you to take at least 1-2 advanced science courses to prove to them you can handle challenging courses above the 100-200 level.

If you have a good MCAT (27+) and u did well in your prereqs, then you more than likely can get by with taking all 4 Ecology courses.

I believe the advices in this thread was tailored towards covering all bases and being "safe" on your application and leaving no room for a Sergeant Adcom to make a comment and put ideas into the committee members when reviewing your application.

Edit: Elevencents just beat me to it lol

Some medical schools if you contact them tell you why you were rejected correct? Did anybody get rejected because the school didn't like your selected course work? And it sucks because I wanted to take mammalian physiology next semester but it conflicted with a required class for my second major.

I was rejected by LECOM-B for not enough upper level science courses. I've taken physiology, anatomy, human genetics.

Take classes where you get

I was rejected from LECOM-B for the same reason with stats above their average. The only bio classes I had were Intro and Micro so it kinda makes sense, although no other school has cared.

I say just take the bio classes that will give you the highest GPA, unless you're dying to go to LECOM-B.

Is it only LECOM-B or do the other LECOM schools apply to this ?

LECOM-B was the only school to not extend me an II so far so that's the only school I've confirmed with. I don't think you should worry too much about the difficulty in your science courses, just as long as you're doing very well in them. Its better to have easy sciences with a 4.0 than hard sciences with a 3.0. Go with whats gonna make you more appealing, quantitatively speaking.
