Economics of outrageous Locum Tenens hourly rates

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone do or have experience doing 24 hour shifts at tiny EDs in the middle of nowhere? Debating doing something like that in the future.
I know some that do. The experience ranges from great to terrible, depending on the physician, hospital/support, and volume. Much as you'd expect.

Yes. Sometimes you can sleep. Sometimes you can't. Probably don't want to make it a routine thing due to chronic possible sleep deprivation, but doing it once a month for extra money isn't any more terrible than working 2 12s at a place that is a conveyor belt.

I've even done a 48. Once.

Any advice about which states I should start applying to get a license in? I have IL and IN, will probably get WI too as it's cheap and good malpractice/opportunities.

Thinking about TX and maybe NV. I seem to find the most opportunities in midwest, southwest, and a decent number southeast but I hate the southeast.

Texas license is a good license to have, but a pain in the ass. Costs $2k and requires you to take a jurisprudence exam.

I personally wouldn't apply for so many licenses if you're looking to do locums work. They'll pay for your licensing...
