I'm almost done w/ freshman year and want some advice on EC's. I've basically been only volunteering at a hospital and should have 100 hours by June, although I plan to volunteer for a long time as it reminds me of what I'm going to be doing when I get unmotivated. I don't know what else to do though.

I am planning on volunteering as a tutor at my high school like once a week during sophomore year and shadowing physicians during that year as well. So what more should I be doing at this stage? Also how many volunteering hours and shadowing hours are acceptable by the time I apply. I'm also thinking about LOR and have one teacher so far I know will write me one when I ask. The hospital I volunteer at also writes a LOR and the university I'm going to transfer writes a committee letter. I also think I can get a LOR from my high school principle or something once I start tutoring (if I shouldn't use a high school principles LOR tell me). Also when should I start research? I honestly don't think I'll enjoy research but I want to do it if it will look good. I'm just all over the place and need some advice. Anyways advice is greatly appreciated.

None of the professors you've taken as a freshman should write you an LOR, unless you'll be taking them for another class as a junior or are their TA. Those should come from upper-level science profs preferably.

Start research now if you have the opportunity.

So I shouldn't get a LOR from any prerequisite class ? & how should I go about finding a research job. I feel like emailing gets nowhere and they just ignore you.

Since you're a freshman, that could be the problem. You don't want an LOR from someone who doesn't know you are your academic abilities, of which intro course performance is not a good example.
