Here in Arizona and holding my breath along with the California people. Commiserating with the post about the slow mail system. Will hear back in 2 weeks after the letter is lost twice and put in the wrong mailbox at least three times. Good luck to everyone 🙂

Postal mail = crap. I'm gonna be waiting for 2 weeks. 😡 🙁 :scared: 👎

I agree. I've had other problems with them but this process has made me lose all hope in the USPS. Does anyone know if AECOM will tell you over the phone if you call in?

Tigress where are you? Don't keep us in suspense, did you get in or what??????

Brooklyn here....Got waitlisted 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 ....all that work and nothing.....why ....Einstien why??? 🙁 🙁

I'm at a family wedding in SC, so I won't know if I got the letter until Monday night! 😛 Craziness. Congrats to everybody who got accepted. Great job guys. And shuey, hopefully the waitlist will move some!

:scared: omg omg omg.. im away from my apartment this weekend at my parents' house and im itching to check my mail... i cant wait... but im in Cali... so maybe there will be nothing there still ahhhhhhhhh.... Einstein show me some love!!!!!!!

tigger, Arizona here, nothing in our mailboxes. hold till tuesday 🙂

I'm in Chicago, and haven't heard anything yet...but if it makes any of you guys feel any better, I will be declining my acceptance if I get in, so that would be at least one spot for any waitlisters! Good luck to all 🙂

As expected, nothing waiting for me in the mail when I got home tonight. I did have an open freezer that apparently popped open right after we left 5 days ago (and it was very full), so we're in the process of clearing the house of rotten fish, spoiled melted ice cream, and other assorted grossness. How wonderful, eh?

heh, I guess I had to complain somewhere 😛 In any case good luck to everybody looking forward to tomorrow or Wednesday's mail! 🙂

will we get a letter if we were rejected? or only if we were accepted and waitlisted. I'm in AZ and i figure if i'm in i'll find out tomorrow or the next few days, but i was just curious 🙂 thanks!

I got waitlisted.

It looks like they sent out acceptances and waitlists to everybody. A waitlist is basically a rejection, I think, based on what the letter says, for almost everybody, with a very small number of people filling unfilled spots.

I'm not handling it very well, actually. I had sort of decided that Einstein is my only option to go to medical school at all. So I may have to reapply next year or just decide not to go. It's purely a financial issue (I would have scholarship money to go to Einstein). So I'm pretty upset.

i'm so sorry tigress. but you can't wait a whole 'nother year when you have several other acceptances! i'm sure somebody will give you some scholarship money, maybe drexel. doesn't your husband go there? is your husband going to do his residency in nyc or something?

aecom is crazy to not accept you straight off anyways...

Thanks for responding bubbleyum. I guess I mostly just have to get over this. It's hard, because my best friend goes to AECOM and kept saying that I would get in, and she almost convinced me 😛 My husband does go to Drexel, and I love the school (even though the reputation isn't great, which bothers me). My next option is to hope they might give me some money. Hey, my husband is paying full tuition, they could give me a break, right?

One main reason this is difficult for me is because I'm going to be having a baby the first week of August (God willing), so my plan was to defer a year from Einstein if I got in. But I might be able to pull off going to Drexel, since I know the curriculum (from my husband) and they have their lecture videos posted online, and it's a very accommodating school. So it's just hard not to know what to plan for.

I suppose the good news is that I like the curriculum better at Drexel anyway

Im so nervous rite now that I feel naseous and light headed. I am at work and cannot concentrate. I even called home to see if the mailman came yet.

Oh Tigress!!!! I dont know if I should be happy that you are having a baby or sad about AECOM! I feel you have some great choices though in terms of med schools. Maybe you should talk more to some counselors before giving up those acceptances. I hear that competition is increasing with each comming year, so it may be harder to get into Drexel and Jefferson next year, let alone AECOM. But Im sure you will make the right decision for yourself and for your family! Good luck with everything! 🙂

Did anyone receive flat out rejections?

yeah. reputation isn't everything, the only reputation taht matters is the one in your own mind! also, don't give up entirely on the waitlist. is it a ranked waitlist?

congratulations on the baby! i see why you are concerned about time and money issues. it's not easy, but i'm sure you will pull it off. 🙂

Gracey, I don't think they send out rejections until the summer. That's what the wait-list letter sounded like.

Thanks everybody for the congrats. We're obviously very excited (of course the timing could be better, but life doesn't always go according to plan 😛).

I hope all of y'all hear good news from Einstein. Everybody I know there loves it.

I'm sorry to hear about the waitlist tigress but I wouldn't give up hope yet! When I interviewed there my interviewer told me that if I liked the school I should not keep it to myself...that I should write a letter to the admissions committee explaining what I liked about the school and expressing my interest. I know there has been a lot of debate on SDN about the whole letter of interest issue but I figure if the interviewer at AECOM was encouraging me to write one then they must take those letters into consideration. Plus, I thought in the past their waitlist tended to move? (though I could be wrong about that). I know hearing about the waitlist at Einstein must be very upsetting but you never know what is going to happen between now and the end of the summer as far as waitlist movement goes. Congratulations on the baby 🙂 I wish you and your family all the best and good luck with your med school decisions :luck:

I'm nervous to go home now as I probably have a letter waiting for me in my mailbox as well 😳

hey tigress, if AECOM is your #1 choice, you should write them a letter of intent or whatever to pull yourself off the waitlist. You're extremely qualified and maybe you were waitlisted for odd reasons (they assumed you'll go to your state schools?).

Well, that sucks Tigress since you graduated from Einstein. I got the waitlist letter too today (Baltimore) from Einstein. I know the same feeling, got put on hold at my state school (there goes cheap tuition and scholarships). Then again, a lot of people don't have the option of choosing what school to go to. Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I checked Einstein interviewed 1400 people and accepted 600. So there is hope.

Waitlist for me too. Total bummer since I REALLY liked it when I interviewed, I'm also somewhat suprised since I thought the interview went well too. I guess I have to come to the conclusion that I don't have a good barometer for how these things go.

Hey there guys. I got accepted to AECOM, and reading all your posts makes me feel really bad, especially since its not my top choice. But, like I said earlier, know that there will be at least one spot opening up because I'm not even going to send in a deposit. Tigress, I wish there were some way I could give my acceptance directly to you, i would do it without a second's thought 🙁 But good luck to you guys, I'm sure there are plenty of others like me who will withdraw their acceptances. And, I don't mean this to sound at all patronizing - but I'm a firm beliver that everything happens for a reason. Hang in there.

same here.

Hi everyone,

I came back home for work early and I'm in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so excited!!!!!!! i love AECOM and finally, I don't have this med school thing bothering me everyday! It was my one and only interview out of the 21 schools I applied to. so as you can see from my previous post, I was really nervous. but yea! I guess you just need to have faith, right? 🙂

Rejected pre-interview? or post-interview?

So sorry to hear that. 🙁

post-interview. it was actually my first interview, so i am assuming that i got better after practice (i have other acceptances) or that maybe it isn't advantageous to interview early at a school with non-rolling admissions. my interviewer said i would have "no problem getting in". 🙄

anyway, congrats to everyone else. i wanted to post that i was rejected to give hope to the waitlisted people. good luck to everyone.

Waitlist does not mean rejection! I remember a few people right here on SDN got off the waitlist last year. I was also on their listserv for a few months and received a lot of introductory emails from people who got off the waitlist. I am not sure how the ranking works, but it's not over yet. Keep hope alive

"Our experience has been that although the majority of students in this category will be closed-out in the early summer, a small number will be offered an acceptance."

Sounds pretty rejection-ish to me. Oh well, atleast they made my decision easier.

Yes, unfortunately.

On the bright side, I have a spot elsewhere. Its still a disappointment though...I really like AECOM.

Got my waitlist letter today, sent Jan 13th. I'm in CA too fwiw. At least I didn't think my interview went well, so it wasn't a huge surprise.

i interviewed december 14th. did any of you guys interview around then?

any of you located in florida?

thanks!

yes and close by---I interviewed on dec 5 and i am in louisiana

I'm in Florida, Interviewed in October, and got rejected today! My first one ... It was by far my worst interview, very weird. To give you an idea, my interviewer repeatedly said in response to my answers to her questions, "I don't understand" and "I still don't get it." Anyway, good luck to everyone else 🙂

which part of CA are you from? no mail for me today.... 😕

I'm from the Yay Area. Also, interviewed Dec. 19th. I was surprised the turnaround was so quick, we were told it would be two months.

I'm in orange county...no mail for me either :-(

I'm in Texas, and nothing for me here either.

Tigress, I was wondering why you can't still defer a year for the pregnancy at Drexel? Also, and feel free not to answer this, but why would you have funding for einstein and not for drexel?

Check out last year's AECOM class list. Some people did get off, not a lot, but this is from a small sample of SDN members only.

Uegis, thanks for the link. I was also pretty depressed by that one sentence in the wait-list letter. It's funny, last year everybody was saying that they make the wait-list seem very positive. Well, I don't think a wait-list letter could get more negative than the one AECOM sent this year. Maybe they decided to change for some reason. In any case it is definitely cool to see that people got in off of the wait-list last year. I wonder if they even have a "favorably reviewed" list this year at all? Has anybody received a letter suggesting they are on this list?

I'm cursed with the tendency to get very upset easily, but blessed with the ability to get over it very quickly. So I had a few bad hours earlier but I'm good to go now 😛 Thanks for everybody's support. I guess it will work out one way or another.

geekOCD, I could defer the year from Drexel, but I think I'd actually be able to attend in the fall if I went there. As far as money, I went to Yeshiva's undergrad (AECOM is their med school), and there's private scholarship money for women from there to go to AECOM (it's not associated with the med school in any way, just an endowed scholarship fund). So my biggest issue is financial.

Congrats to all and good luck to those waiting to hear (or on the wait-list with me!).

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to voice my (potentially outdated) opinion. I am a 4th year at Einstein. I was in the rather small group of my classmates that was accepted on January 15th. From what they told me on my interview day, they accept as many people as would be in the first year class (180) on that day. Many more of my friends and classmates interviewed after 1/15 and were accepted on the rolling admission list. Many others were accepted off the waitlist. I write this to echo the sentiment expressed earlier - if you really are interested in Einstein, write a concise letter stating what about Einstein made you want to go there. It doesn't guarantee you a spot (as I learned from my rejection to my first choice med school, Columbia), but it won't hurt.

For those of you that got in, congratulations. Einstein has its definite positives and its negatives. It is unfortunate that only first and second years act as tour guides, because they only really know a limited amount about Einstein. The first two years of medical school will be extremely similar wherever you go - no matter what admissions offices tell you. My friends at HMS, P&S, Baylor, etc. all agree - you will feel like you are teaching yourself medicine a lot of the time, and that is how it works everywhere. There is no magic recipe, and there is no possible way to spoonfeed you the amount of medicine you need to know to start your clinical years. The really important year is 3rd year (and some of 4th). As far as I'm concerned and from what I have heard on the emergency medicine residency interview trail, Einstein is famous for training extremely good residents. Because of the uniquely difficult, yet extremely educational, experience we have during the clinical years (matched only in New York by SUNY Downstate students), our graduates run circles around most of our counterparts.

Well, those are my 2 cents.

Good luck to everyone on this long, yet extremely exciting path!

sad... my interview went well, all sorts of good stuff and i got flat out rejected. I wanted to go so badly. *sigh* not even a chance to grovel. oh well. just goes to show that working with cancer patients, doing research and getting a 3.9 can get you absolutely nowhere. oy. well, i'm one school away from out of options now. guess i better start studying for another mcat

FL here. I'm still at the lab, but I guess it's time for me to head home and face the music. 😛 I'll let you guys know what happens.

tigress, I'm so sorry to hear about you getting waitlisted. 🙁 (hugs) to you, and congrats about the baby. I agree with the other posters who suggested that you write a LOI. It may or may not help, but it certainly can't hurt, right?
