Hi, Just started to tackle the EK Bio 1001 book, after doing the corresponding 1st chapter in the 'review' book, and was actually shocked to find that they 1001 book was passages rather than individual questions as asked in the orgo, and chem book

They also seem to test various info from further chapters, only in the first chapter, did anyone else feel this way?

I see that these are passage based problems, however do you guys think that this book is a good way to master the Bio section?

Thanks

its actually not bad. very dense book. takes some time. If you are lagging in bio or certain sections of it, it supplements the AAMC practice exams really well.

Actually MCAT passages do question a range of topics rather than be focused on a clear cut topic.

I think it is pretty tough because it presents information from different lectures that you haven't been exposed to. However, I think it's a really good way to teach yourself the Bio on the MCAT because you really learn how to use the process of elimination as well as rely on the passages for the information to figure out the questions on material that is in different sections of the book. Also, I find the explanations to be a bit shaky *sometimes* but it's really a good way to evaluate and critically think how you get to the right answer.

You should compare and post your results here if you decide to stick with it!

Just so you know there are quiet a few of errors that are quiet blatant (i crossed check with my cell bio/biochem/physiology/genetic/microbio book when i get something wrong).

also alot of the stuff they say you can get from passage are extremely ambiguous.

Not at all. There are only a few cases when the answers are hard to deduce, and if anything, it is better to be intimidated by practice tests while sitting at home instead of at the actual test. EK bio is a really great tool for sharpening your bio skills

Ok i guess i need to rephrase it. alot of stuff they said is "implied" in the passage is not actually there.

Wouldn't that be the definition of an implication?

I do have a question about factual errors, as I'm curious about purchasing the book, are they egregious enough to not be worth using?
