I'm using EK and every so often I find that during practice exams there will be a concept that I don't remember even remotely touching in EK.

Also, when I was doing the EK 101 Bio Passages I noticed that sometimes they'll have test questions that they don't talk about either.
For example: there was a question about blood circulation in a fetus...and which artery is responsible. I had no idea and figured whatever I'll guess, they didn't cover this....the answer in the back was along the lines of: "This is something you MUST remember for the MCAT"

WTF!? Anyone have a similar experience?

I remember this happening. I think this is done intentionally to simulate the real test. You WILL get something on the real test that there's no way you would know about. It's part of the game.

I remember the fetal stuff specifically... I think it asked which shunt causes blood to go where, right? Yeah, that's never mentioned anywhere. If you're overly concerned about it, I would use another reference to double check stuff. I had the Kaplan Premier Program book specifically for this purpose, but I seldom used it.

YEAH! That was the question. I felt so bad not knowing it after I read the explanation and it made me feel like I should have. I scoured the EK book looking for something on fetal physiology and couldn't find anything!
I'm only 3 weeks out from the actual thing, I likely don't have time to go through other references but I'll keep what you said in mind, thanks!

Ek bio plus the 1001 review is perhaps the only of the four books plus study questions that covers all the subject material

yep. Many times EK (and others!) leave material for the practice exam that wasn't in the material. Yes, it seems that they are trying to simulate finding unexpected details in the real deal. Evil? maybe. Helpful? almost certainly. My first instinct is to be resentful. Sigh and move on. Use the teaching materials, text and graphs and practice exams, to teach. Don't agonize over them.
