I was just wondering, if a intervier gives you a card and tells you to email them if you have any questions, is it ok to email them and say thank you for the time or what not for the interview? What is the ediquote with contacting them? Does it come off as sucking up or is something that could only help you , not hurt you.

Doesn't really hurt or help you... the interviewer is usually not on the admissions committee, however, it is common courtesy to thank your interviewer... you can do this either do it through e-mail if you want to do it quickly but more formally is to write and send a letter.

the interviewer isnt on the admissions committee?? I thought they had the final say in whether the student gets accepted or not. So then who is on the admissions committee??

Really? You should always write a letter or email every interviewer you get?

i usually don't like this type of thing, but it seems like it has become a norm. and i think it's ok to email them thanking them for making u feel comfortable, etc. but u need to ask them for their info, they won't give it to u.

The interviewer is usually not on the adcom. Commonly, the interviewer scores you, makes some notes to the adcom, and then the adcom considers these along with the rest of your application (i.e. grades, scores, EC, LORs etc).

Sometimes the interviewers are not even faculty at the school, they can use guest interviewers (usually local pharmacists and or alumni along with current students).

I think in most cases your interviewer has already given their opinion or score on you. However, out of professionalism you should always send a thank you letter out to someone who could potentially get you into the job/pharmacy school. Bottom line is it won't hurt you or help you, but I think sending one out is proper etiquette.

it all depends on which school ur talking about. but generally its not the interviewer that makes the final decision. they will just give recommendations about u after the interview. its normally the dean that goes through ur file and makes the final decision. i know at nova, two weeks or so after the interview the dean will meet with interviewers and have a conference about the people they interviewed. here they will go through each student's file and give suggestions and analyze ur answers and stuff i guess. from what i understand the interviewer's role is over. then two weeks or so after that the dean will sit down, make a decision, and signs the acceptance letter which will be mailed to u. this is what they told me when i went for my interview at nova. BTW, the interviewers are on the admissions committee but its the dean that makes the decision. at least thats the way it is for a lot of schools.
