Emailing PDs

Scattered across the internet there is a decent amount of advice for M4s to email PDs of programs expressing interest before interviews go out. I’m not the type that would usually do this but there are few programs I’m particularly interested in where I couldn’t rotate due to schedule etc. how cringe is it to do this? Is there any actual point to it?

I am waiting for one SLOE so I suppose my email could be something like I wanted to let you know I’m waiting for this one sloe and expect it around this date and also love your program etc

Most of us here are pretty removed from the interview process, especially in the post-EM-collapse and post-signalling world. My general advice is I’d listen to your advisors and not what people on Reddit say.
