Good luck, I think there may be one person on here

I got my acceptance letter yesterday. I live in atlanta so it was especially quick. I interviewed on Nov. 9th, so it took a while for them to review my file. I am having a real hard time deciding between Emory and Medical College of Ga. If anyone has some helpful advice, it would be much appreciated. Also, I have yet to fill out the Profile or FAFSA application? Am I screwed for financial aid or what?

Congratulations! I bet you are so relieved. I am still waiting on my letter...
Hmm, MCG vs. Emory. I personally loved Emory and didn't like MCG at all. But I guess there are a couple of things to consider.
1) Who's paying for med school? If its you, you are talking about hella debt from Emory.
2) Did you like both schools?
3) What kind of medicine do you want to do? If you want to go into a really competitive residency (i.e. dermatology) I would go to Emory. They have a better national reputation.
4) Do you like Augusta??
5) I think EMory also provides an incredible clinical education. How can you beat the Grady experience.

I personally would chose Emory in half of a heartbeat. Their physicians and faculty are awesome, the students are diverse, their clinical training is excellent, and they have a superior national reputation that will help you in the future. But, they also cost 40,000 a year. So...hope that helps.?.
Anyway - congratulations again. I am so jealousand hope that I hear good news next month!!

thanks jennifer....in response to who is paying, probably my parents (a little) and me (alot). Money is the biggest factor in my decision. I would not mind living in Augusta. It would be a good change of scenery, remember that i have lived in Atlanta for 22 years. Isn't MCG's reputation just as good?? That's what I've heard, but I need some other opinions as well. So have you heard from MCG yet??? Are you even considering it? Oh well, maybe that should have been saved for a PM. Good luck!!!!

There have been a lot of recent threads on FAFSA and finanacial aid. Do a search, read them, apply for a PIN (if you don't already have one from undergrad), and while waiting for your PIN, get your parents' and your tax year 2001 info (it can be estimates) organized so you can input it the minute you get your PIN. I think you can input the non-financial info and save it while waiting for your PIN. I discovered that several of my schools (and mind you, I've only been accepted to one) downloaded my FAFSA info the very day that it was processed!! Congrats on your acceptances!! :) Now, go get the money!!! :D

I appreciate the help.

That makes me feel a bit better, I didnt interview until Dec 15th, so maybe I still have a shot the next round.

hey eddie - i finally heard from MCG, got the thumbs up :)
have you decided where you are going yet? or which one you think you might go to? i guess i will get the word from emory march 11th or something and i am definately crossing my fingers...

I was interviewed right before an admissions committee meeting. They mailed the next Monday, and I was very lucky to receive my acceptance from that batch. All in all, it took only 2 weeks between my interview invite and my acceptance, but that was lucky timing.

I'm also having a tough time deciding between MCG and Emory!

I interviewed on 2/1 and my acceptance letter was dated 2/8, mailed 2/11. As with peachgirl above, I interviewed right before the 2/11 mailing and they told me there was I chance I would hear from them immediately simply because I interviewed right before the ad com meeting. I suppose I'm lucky they made a decision right away. Good luck to everyone waiting, Emory is awesome.

Congrats to those of you who've gotten in to Emory! It's a great school. I didn't apply there, but it's a fantastic school. I miss Swoop...maybe you guys can ruffle Swoop's feathers for me if you decide to go there.
:)
