I haven't had a group interview yet at any of the schools I've interviewed at so far. I've got Emory coming up pretty soon, and I was wondering if anyone here has any advice on what to do in these interviews? Are they just like group conversations?

Any advice on group interviews would be appreciated!

The group interview at Emory is actually not too bad. They also do a nice job of trying to make it relaxed for the applicants. It is not, however, a group conversation. 2 faculty + your 4th year tour guide (be on your best behavior!) sit on one side, you and your two co-interviewees sit on the other. In my interview, the interviewers went down the line and asked us questions that all 3 of us were to answer, one by one. Probably 5-6 questions in all. I think they only have your PS and a list of activities in front of them. In my case, they didn't ask much in the way of our particular activities, more general questions.

Tips:
- You get to see who your group interview will be with. Meet the other two and get to know them. Makes things more comfortable. My co-interviewees were really nice, so we just chatted briefly during our tour (we had the benefit of afternoon interviews, so we could get to know each other during the morning tour session)
- It's not just about what you say. Listen to the others while they give their responses. If you zone out, that's kinda rude.
- There's no group problem to solve, like Northwestern has.

Good luck, Emory is awesome.

The group interview is not bad at all. They usually ask everyone the same question, or ask you something based on your personal statement. Be sure to know why medicine, why Emory? I was also asked to tell them about my family. They then asked us as a group to solve the health disparity problem, but it was a collaborative answer. I don't think it is bad at all. Just be yourself. Everyone was friendly and know that the student interviewer you have will also be your tour guide. Hope that helps and best of luck!

I interviewed there two years ago, and my thoughts are the same as the above posters'.

In addition to what was mentioned, we were asked about our favorite books and where we'd traveled.

I am CONVINCED that part of the interview format is aimed at seeing if you can shut the f*ck up for a minute. I think that this is common sense and normal respect for another human being, but wait until you get into medical school and see how difficult that is for some people. Don't underestimate the power of listening respectfully. It was low stress, so have fun.

And Emory absolutely rocks. Good luck and do well!

Congrats on your interview!! Emory is amazing!

I interviewed there two weeks ago and thought I didn't perform well in the group interview. It bummed me out, I thought the other 2 interviewees had better answers than me and so on...but I got an acceptance there yesterday. So know that even if you leave the group interview wishing you had answered questions differently, its not the end of the world.

Just make sure to be attentive and relax. Also try to make eye contact with everyone at some point, including the other two interviewees there.

good luck!! =D

That's really encouraging, thanks! I have mine coming up soon, but I'll try not to get too worked up about it. Congrats on the acceptance!

As others have said, it's not worrisome at all. I was super worried about the group interview. It was actually a great time to hear what other applicants think. For mine, they go down the line and ask the same question a few times, and then ask 1 or 2 more personalized questions. Unfortunately for me, I was last, and the interviewee before me had similar interests and academic/extra-curricular history, so we had many similar answers. But, it turned out great, was a great time, and ended in an acceptance. So, just look at it as any other interview, but take the time to pay attention and show interest in the other interviewees responses.

Congrats on your interview!! Emory is amazing!

I got an acceptance there yesterday.

Another round of Emory acceptances :scared: I haven't heard anything 🙁

Congrats to those with Emory acceptances - it looks to be truly a great school. And the residencies have great reputations.

Good luck to those still waiting!

Did those acceptances come via snail mail? I'm wondering if not having received one yet means no luck this round...
