In response to many posts regarding "What can I do with an MPH?", "How much can I make with an MPH?", "What jobs are available to those with an MPH?", and similar questions, here is a list of websites that I found useful when considering those questions and whether I wanted to pursue a MPH and if I wanted to pursue a MPH, the type of MPH (i.e. general, epidemiology, biostatistics, health services, etc). These same websites became tremendously useful when looking for a job.
It took me a while to consider things from the future to the present, however thinking along those lines made it easier to determine my career goals. Especially because public health is such a broad field.
What I mean by considering things from the future to the present is:
1) consider what you want to do first (Where in the world do you want to work? What is the ratio of employees:customers that you prefer interacting with on any given day? Do you prefer office work or field work? Lots of travel? etc.)
2) determine the jobs/careers that will allow you to do what you want to do
3) discover what combination of degrees and experience will get you that job or access that career (Find an employment posting for an ideal job and look at the maximum/minimum requirements for the job)
4) acquire those degrees and/or experiences
Also, based on my experiences at the School of Public Health I attended, the school as a whole and each department individually were extremely proactive about e-mailing available jobs. On many occasions, I noticed that we would be e-mailed both internal and external job opportunities before they became available to the general public. The amount of support you have finding employment from your School of Public Health via faculty and staff may be something to consider before choosing a school when having the benefit of multiple acceptances. I would expect that top ranked programs would want their graduates to do well!
This list is by no means is exhaustive, so if others have a resource to add, please do!
