Hey guys..

I saw a very interesting report on Australian TV about this new product called "Enamel Paste". Its being created in Japan and what you do is if you spot any decay on the tooth, you apply the paste and it binds to the enamel and acts as enamel. They were saying it will completely stop further decay for 2 years. They were also saying it should be available worldwide within 3 years. Has anyone else here heard of it?

I did a google search and came up with one of the researchers' website with several case photos. I must say that it looks like a breakthrough in restorative/preventive dentistry. I can see several great applications of it already and it looks like it'll only get better with further improvements. Very interesting!! Thanks!!

Promising...but worldwide in three years...I'll believe it when I see it.

Sounds a lot like the school in Texas "growing teeth." Many claim the applications are just around the corner...I've had patients tell me they are going to stop brushing because by the time they lose their teeth, dentists will be able to "grow" new ones for them - hah!

I hope those patients enjoy the rest of their life in complete dentures. I don't try to pe a pessimist, but as soon as I see bona fide research from a peer-reviewed journal that shows the stuff works clinically, then I'll start treatment planning around it...until then I will lump it in a category with time travel and setting up my dental practice on Mars...

Sounds pretty interesting to me. Obviously it would have to undergo much more rigorous testing, but the EM pics of the enamel rods showed they were oriented correctly with the original structure (in comparison to that of a tooth tx w/ NaF, where the layer was thin and irregular). Potential questions...will it work the same on a vital tooth? If it makes the tooth appear that white, what if someone only needs it on 1 tooth and it's anterior? They would have to bleach all of their teeth to match that hyper white of the tx teeth. Also, they tested its durability with x amount of time tooth brushing. I would think it would be more important to test how it stands up to mastication and occlusion, which has far higher stresses than brushing.

Yes, I've heard of "Enamel Paste" It's called COMPOSITE! and it was invented years ago! What would happen after those 2yrs? How would they fill interproximal decays? 🙄

If they have problem with brushing, taking care of their teeth then how would they comply with "growing teeth" process?! Do they think teeth grow overnight?! Most people don't have the money for implants what makes them think patients would be able to pay for "growing teeth"?!

Man, by the time it becomes a reality, monkeys would start flying out of my butt! 😉

You guys are just so gullible! Stop watching late night informercials and stop reading garbage! 😉

No one here said it was going to save mankind. If you're that close-minded you need to try a different field. It's a good thing there are people who spend the time to research. If everyone reacted the way you did when the first generation composites were developed, they would have just quit and said "It's called AMALGAM! It has been used for decades, how with this composite ever compare".

🙄

I wonder if it will cause Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, or Multiple Sclerosis just like those mercury fillings do?

The ongoing research shows that those are the possible side effects of "enamel paste" It causes Parkinson's and Alzheimer only when enamel paste is used in old people!
