I know I sort of have the cart before the horse seeing as to how I haven't even been accepted to dental school yet but, that being said, how much do salaried specialists make? There is a lot of information out there for practice owners but I'm focusing on the guys who don't want the business aspect of the profession. Endo and OMFS in particuar seem to be the most likely to go this route. They work in a partnership or for a large dental firm, make thier base salary + a percentage of what they bring in and at the end of the day leave without bringing work home with them.

If you guys have any practical (not salary surveys which are wildly inaccurate from my experience) where you can cite people you went to school with and the deals they were able to work out...that would be great. Any specialist perspective (endo is just an example) will be more welcomed.

Not trying to sound like a jerk but really it ALL DEPENDS! IF you do a quick search and go back you'll see what I'm talking about...when the economy is bad, specialists and generals hurt; when the economy is good, specialists and generals do good. Also why do you say that OMFS etc "dont take home" their work? You'd be surprised at how most dentists a great majority of stuff they talk about and think about is related to dental care etc. Its very difficult to keep that stuff out of your head when you are dealing with it for 8 or 10 hours a day! just wait till you get to dental school first and see if you even want to specialize...trust me, its VERY overhwhelming going through that 4 years, no matter which school you go to.

First thing I would say to you is, Get accepted into a Dental School and then finish the 4 yrs of Dental School. Caz, believe me when i tell you, its not easy as it sounds.
From personel experiences, there is no point in wasting time about this untill you are actually in Dental school. And if you still want to know how much they make. Well, there is no perticular figure anyone would tell you. Since specialists work mostly on referals, your potential to make abscene amount of money is high. So thats why everyone reports different number in income. Depending on a busy practice (~$700-$1500/RCT x4-5/day) and then you can multply that by the number of days you work. The other good thing about Endo is, there is no overhead. So your take home is higher then others. If you want more info, google 2008 Dental Income survey - Income from private practice of Dentistry.

Hope that helps, and goodluck!🙂

14 million dollars/year... and very little overhead!
