Did all of you have your engineering courses counted in your Science GPA? I was a ChemE and entered all of my courses under the engineering category, which fell under the "all others" GPA on the AMCAS app. I just got processed and saw they changed each and every one of my ChemE courses and put them in the Science GPA. Did any of you have this experience? It seriously crushed my Science GPA. Has anyone had any luck with calling AMCAS and getting them to change the designation on courses you thought they designated wrong?

Anyone have any luck getting AMCAS to change courses from "science" to "all-other" or vice versa?

If all of my engineering courses are included in my BCPM GPA, what's the point of the engineering category?

I only have expirience with the TMDSAS (TX system), but all my Engineering couses were counted as science. My PFOS GPA was 3.96, so no problems here🙂

I was a ChemE major and all of my engineering classes were luckily lumped into other. That doesn't make sense that they changed yours!!

I'll trade you, buddy! I was a chem-E undergrad, also, and the only unhappy grades I got were in two chemistry classes. My engineering classes were all lumped under "other" so my science average took a big hit, with fewer hours to "dilute" those ugly ones. If you have any luck sparring with the AMCAS folks I would hugely appreciate hearing about it (although I'd be trying to do the opposite!)

Hang in there. I've only had one interview, but they very carefully went over each grade with me rather than looking at the average. As long as you can explain your rough spots I think you're in good shape.

I am an engr major and all my engr classes went into other (I classified them as engr on AMCAS). I am surprised they changed yours. My other friends here in engineering have had the same experience as me.

What do you guys mean when you say "other"? Does that mean your engineering courses got counted into your sci gpa? I wish mine did. I classified my eng courses as "engr", but I haven't been verified yet.

I think what everyone means by "other" is non BCMP (Bio, Chem, Math, or Physics classifications). I classified mine as "engr" as well, and they all were verified by AMCAS with no corrections.

I seem to recall that there was some leeway on how the applicant categorized their engineering courses; whether they were BCPM or Other depended on the type of course and how the applicant chose to do it.

I mixed it up a lot... Classes that were very biology or chemistry related (like thermo or physiology) went science, while the more engineering type classes I tended to put in engineering (like computer science)

BUt that was just me manipulating my BCPM gpa.

I classified all of my chemical engineering courses under "engineering" but AMCAS changed each and every one of them to chemistry and they got included in my science GPA. I wouldn't mind if they did this to everyone, but they don't seem consistent at all in their efforts.

Not sure if you want this info, but I was a computer science major and all of my CS classes were counted as non-science.
I though well if computer science is non-science then I will use a CS professor for my non-science LOR.

Slightly related question here ... does one's grade in, say, algebra count toward one's science GPA? I am kind of worried because I do great in biology classes and even chemistry, but for some reason I go blank on math tests and I estimate I'll get a B or (if things go particularly wrong) even a C. I understand all the concepts, and I get 100's on my homework, so it's not that I'm math illiterate. I just can't remember crap for the tests. My overall GPA is strong enough to take a C, but needless to say it would look bad if it was included in my science GPA. 🙁

Yep . . . sorry🙁

I feel your pain on that one - I'm in grad school and took differential geometry (Diff Eq meets the most beastly parts of Geo) to satisfy an engineering requirement and got a B. That definitely hurt.

When I was applying, all my engineering classes (mostly Bioengineering, but some Mechanical) counted.

I was a ChemE undergrad and all my engineering courses were left out of my science GPA. I wonder if it has anything to do with how your school presents the courses on your transcript. Don't you love how opaque AMCAS is?
