Hey everyone. I know that the majority of dental schools require 6 credits/a year of English. I already took a semester of freshman english. Do classes that aren't in the English department but are writing intensive count toward the 6 credits?

I'm taking a year off after I graduate this Spring and plan on taking a few more upper bio classes at a local 4yr university to hopefully boost up my science gpa. If I still need another semester of English, I was thinking of just taking it then. Do you think it will matter?

Thanks!

I am taking a writing course, but it is through the English department. I asked several dental scools and they told me it SHOULD be. However, other schools that I asked weren't sure.... I think as long as it says ENGL or WRIT you should be fine.

since we're on this topic, i have a question.
me aadsas transcript section does not show the summer course that i took in english. so, my transcripts dont really have any english course on them. im taking a semster of english in the fall; took one in the summer.
what do you guys suggest i should do. should i call up the universities and let them know? i know that most universities want all pre reqs completed by the time students enter dental school. so, i wonder if this english pre req could create a problem for me.

as soon as you have the grade for the english class, forward it along with a new set of transcripts to the school. Your word isn't always enough for dental schools, so you may as well play it safe.

As for writing courses, so long as it says writing, I think schools have said it was fine. I've seen other people ask this question to dental school adcom people and the answer was almost always that if it was a writing course, it was fine. I can't be sure for myself cause I was an English major...I got that part covered 10 times over.
