I'm currently a third year med student..I just became interested in ENT after doing a rotation in it last month. I know I have a little more time now that the ENT match is not early, but I was just wondering what my chances of matching are if I apply this year. I have an MPH. I have done Rads research with possible publication, but no ENT research. My Step 1 score is 254....honors in medicine and neurology..and have yet to finish surgery and a few other rotations. Letters so far from the Rads Chair who I did research with (not sure how much this will count) and the Medicine PD who I did my medicine rotation with. Oh, and am a girl which I have heard helps😉 Another question, if I do my Sub-I in July or August, should I also do a research month in ENT or would an away month be better? I would really appreciate any input or advice...thanks!!! 😀

Hey I have another ENT related query...Where are there sub-I's in ENT? My school doesn't have a program, so is there really a difference between doing an away elective vs. a sub-I?

Also, how much ENT experience do most ppl have going into an ENT elective? I know I'll have none, and I'm nervous that I will look like a fool when the time comes--what can I do, or is it normal for students not to know anything about ENT because it's not a required clerkship?

Thanks...

I think it's best to go into a program strong. You should pick up the book "ENT Secrets" and start reading it. You should know the basics before you start your sub-I.

Mstud: You should do fine. I would advise to do an away rotation if you are really interested in a particular program or if your program isn't particularly strong. Otherwise, more research always helps. Other than that, apply to at least 20-30 programs (any less and you're playing with fate).

Neek: A sub-I is an Oto rotation at your program. If your school doesn't have Oto, away rotations are what you get. I agree with with neutrapenia on reading up on the basics before your rotation.
