i was wondering if any of you had ideas on where to put extracurricular activities (chess club, whatever) and professional organizations (ama, amsa, etc.) on the ERAS application. there are spots for work and volunteer experience, but nothing that seems to clearly fit for the above. thanks in advance for advice.

Extracurriculars can go under "Hobbies and Interests" on page 12. I doubt anyone cares what organizations an applicant belongs to.
