Erie question

I've seen posts saying that they were nice apartments. I'm moving into the Village on Pacific. They are owned by the same company that own Scenery Hills. I haven't seen them, but they are brand new and I heard they were really nice. Coming from San Diego I couldn't afford to come out and look at apartments before moving.

I thought you were heading to Lakeview? If you find anything out, let me know!! I think that I will be looking until July... 🙁

Well I was headed to Lakeview, but as of yesterday they were full!!!!!!!!!

If I were you I would start looking now...

As a soon to be MSIII (not official until after the boards on tues and wed) I have lived in scenery hills appts for 2 years. And Im signing the lease again for a third year. I do not have a roommate yet, so if anyone is interested...let me know....the lease will start July 1. Its right down the street from school (5 min walk) and costs 356/mo (that includes the rented washer/dryer from Maleno).
If there is any other needed advice (which places to live...Ill give some help).
Hope to hear from you and good luck in your first year...
jason

Hi stomper627,
I've gotten mixed replies about Granada...i am going to see it myself in June, but some people like it and some say a total crap hole....I guess there are nicer apartments than others, is the conclusion i've come to? Any info on that? Granada is the cheapest I could find so far.
thanks, good luck on those boards!

I lived in Granada for my Post Bac year. Lets say I lucked out in the place. I moved here from Seattle and came over without a place to live. Basically I took the first apt that would let me move in that day. And considering the cost compared to what I was used to, I thought it would be great.
I was on a top floor apt that luckily didnt leak when it rained (others did in my building) also I didnt get any of the mold or mildew like the basement appts or the flooding either. Now, not all the apts will have these problems, but I do not recommend Granada on the fact that you do not need these extra stressors while going to medical school. Also of note....we had constant black outs at granada (3-4/mo). This was very inconvienent....considering computers, alarm clocks, stereo equip, etc.
I do not recommend Granada to LECOM students. We have plenty of other stuff to worry about.

YEA! An apt in Lakeview opened up today...Whew...

I have heard terrible things about Granada...When I've asked people about apts, the first thing they say is "Stay away from Granada!"

Whoa, that sounds absolutely horrible. I will hopefully not have to live there then, the nice thing about it is its 1.6 miles away from the school....stomper627, I'm actually on LECOM's waitlist for the med school, but if I don't get off, I'll be attending their postbac program. Did you apply after that year and get in? Will I have a hard time getting in even after the post bacc? Also, could you tell me a little bit about the program? THanks so much, your input is greatly appreciated.

I thought the post bac was a great thing...and I think out of my post bac class of 45......40 got in at LECOM or went somewhere else. The past 2 years of it they have changed the format, so I cant speak for how it will be now, but the focus on anatomy, physio, and micro really helped.
I know I did not find the year to be a waste.....
Would recommend getting an appartment as close to school as you can. I can do everything within a 1 mi radius from my appt. Food shop, school, gym, coffee house (ok...Barnes and noble or boarders) but when the winter comes and it takes 30 minutes to drive 2 miles because of the snow, youll be much better off....
Ive lived here 3 winters, and survived 2 of the 3 most ever snowfalls in erie (we had 140"+ this past winter).

Great, thanks for the information. Yeah, I totally know about snow, I live 25 miles east of cleveland, so erie is only an hour and a half away. We had the worst winter this year! Terrible. Well, I'm hoping I get off this waitlist, if not, I have a year to prepare myself! I just graduated from Case Western Reserve, and since we have medical, dental, and nursing doctorate programs there, I've already had a chance to work with cadavers for two years now. I am glad I was exposed and given the chance to do this before medical school. Call me crazy, but I really liked anatomy and physio, my favorite subject actually. And by no means were these anat/phys. classes I took easy - I had the head of the bio department teaching them, with nooo exceptions! So I really hope I can use my experience from undergrad. to help me either for the post bacc or med school at LECOM. Thanks again, good luck!!!!!

just so u know...there is no such thing as a bad part of erie

I don't know, there are some pretty sketchy places on the East side of town where I don't think I's want to be after dark. But in comparison to a "big city" its all pretty safe, I think.
And safety is a big priority at LECOM, just wait till you get here and meet out friendly safety gestapo. You would think you were in the middle of a war zone or something! Truth be told its not that bad, its sort of funny really!
I'll tell you what, I feel like I'm in a "bad section" of Erie right now, with the constuction on 38th st, it takes me forever to get anywhere....Of course I really have no place to be until August, so it works out just fine. Yea last summer vacation ever!

u probably live in the mafia section of the town...anyway...u should all live in Millcreek Township than in erie...u won't have traffic problems if u live in the apt.'s by the airport

i was in erie yesterday looking at places, and there's not much left. as far as one bedrooms are concerned, willow wood, alpine village, the winchester and tanglewood are full with lengthy waiting lists.

i went to granada-- it didn't seem too awful, but after reading all these posts, i was a bit biased, and all i saw were the flaws. royal villa was just as crappy as granada, but it was smaller and more expensive. i called two other places and the lady told me i was calling too soon. whatever-- if i had waited any longer, i'd probably be picking out a nice refridgerator box off the curb to live in. everything else was either too far away or way out of my budget.

so its granada for me, which i'm not too thrilled about. i haven't signed or sent in the lease on granada yet, so if anyone has any other suggestions for one bedrooms, i would be really greatful. someone on the other thread said Mill Glenn?? but he or she hadn't actually been inside. for the rest of you, i wouldn't wait if you haven't already found a place.otherwise you might end up in granada with me, or checking out those boxes . . .

hey stompers627, i tried to pm in response to your question about looking for a roommate, but it said you don't accept pm's. i'm going to be a first year at lecom and i'm looking for a roommate.

I heard that scenery has about 3 openings. However, they are 2-bedroom apartments and it is freaken expensive(650 and up). I would be willing to sign the lease if one of you guys want to become my roomate and we could divide the costs. Please, pm me if you are interested. I heard Scenery is the closest apartment to campus.

There are areas of erie filled with drugs and prostitution. It is known as the east side. Be honest with these people. Check out any apartment before making a commitment. Go there at 12pm on a saturday night to see the real character of the area.

Try looking for a condo or house rental ---they will be less expensive than those off the school list. This is an economically depressed area if you didnt know. There are plenty of people who will want your money and will be willing to give you a nice place for it. It will require you to do some looking though. Call real estate agents like howard hannah they will hook you up if you let them know what you want.

For everyone who is looking for a nice and clean place in erie, I would recommend Lovell place. I am from NJ and i was in erie a week ago and i checked out a one bedroom apt going for $460. If anyone is interested call Brandie @ lovell place.

good luck
