#230 states "All of the following are true regarding retroviruses EXCEPT"

and the answer is C - eukaryotic cells can produce reverse transcriptase

I disagree with this b/c SINES and LINES in eukaryotic cells actually use reverse transcriptase....am I wrong? stupid book.

"reverse transcriptase was isolated from a class of viruses called retroviruses." - raven

produced by a retrovirus which is not a eukaryote

idk what SINES and LINES are so i can't say, but from what i know that's why C would be the correct choice

stupid book? maybe you should publish one w/o errors.

The answer is poorly worded. You would see a more specific answer on the MCAT. You are going to come across a few ambiguous answers in the 1001 series. It still makes for great practice nonetheless.

I think they are trying to point out that the host cell doesn't produce the RTase from its own genome for the retrovirus, rather the retrovirus carries the gene for it and the host will transcribe and translate it. You are true that euks produce RTase, but the question seems very misleading at first...

If I just blabbered on about something else, I'm sorry...been up too long😀 😴

It's a poorly worded question, but I can argue from EK's side as well.

All of the following are true regarding retroviruses EXCEPT

A. [true fact]
B. [true fact]
C. Cars are a form of transportation.
D. [true fact]

So from process of elimination, you would choose C. C. isn't true because it has nothing to do with retroviruses.

(You're right though about SINE/LINEs.. I have an exam on molecular genetics in 10 hours.. fun!)
