error with class ranking

I would for sure write your Dean directly. That is ridiculous. Applying to psychiatry or not, competitive or not, residencies are going to see it and it could influence them. Good luck 👍

Edit: I think you should request that your rank be updated, not just that it be annotated in your dean's letter.

Hi guys, I came to find out that there is an error with my class rank. Two of my 3rd year clerkships were not factored in, as my school's clinical education office delayed on inputting my scores (from my April and May clerkships). The end-of-3rd year ranks went out yesterday, despite my scores still not being updated (this is the rank that will be given to residencies). When I inquired with the registrar about this, I was told that they would not help, as they would not re-run the class rank.

This sadly really hurts me, as I did really well in those 2 clerkships. In my first year of school, I failed a few basic science courses which put me a the bottom of the class, but I have pulled my way back up over the last few years by consistently getting good grades since then. Those 2 clerkships would have pulled my rank up even further. Luckily I'm applying to psychiatry which isn't a particularly competitive field, but what happened to me was wrong.

The registrar said that the only thing that could be done was to for some kind of note to be made in my dean's letter stating that 2 courses were not factored into my rank. Can anyone suggest anything I should write to the dean's office to ask if they'd include in my letter? I doubt anything will be done, but I was wondering if I should try.

Thank you. I have written an email to the dean of my medical school as well as the dean of students of the university. I hope either of them might have the authority to force the registrar's office to re-run the rank after all 3rd year grades have been inputted. 🙁

Consider asking the faculty writing your LoRs to include a sentence about the error and give your true rank. Those letters get seen before the Dean's letter anyway.

You need to speak directly with your dean. It's easy for them to brush a random med student off, but if the dean talks to them directly they would at least have to have a discussion.

Thanks so much everyone, I spoke to the dean and got this issue resolved. I appreciate your responses. 👍
