let's just say that ur offered interviews to multiple schools, but u REALLY wanna go to that one special school b/c u think u can get in and u really love it...

but then again ur family is against that idea (b/c it's too far, money, etc) and considers that school to be of second choice if not the last resort. Would u purposefully blow off ur interviews at other schools just so u can get only one acceptance from the school u love leaving ur family with no choice but to let u go there??

hope this makes sense...:xf:

I don't think anyone is crazy enough to do it on purpose, but maybe subconsciously.

haha, it be a risk that i'd be taking to go to the school that i want to.
PLUS, it's effortless to psst off the interviewers anyway. there's a trillion ways to screw up an interview..

What guarantees you will get into that one school you want to?
haha I can't imagine someone p-ssing off the interviewer.. on purpose at least..

Unless you are Xbocker, you will not mess up your interview. I would honestly try to do your best toget into every school you have an interview with. This is my third year applying to dental school, and I am finally getting my first interviews. Just remember you are not gauranteed admissions to your favorite school, so don't take your interviews for granted.

You gotta watch Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.

Some of you like to read more than you like to watch movies...so ill give you a script of the conversation of interest.

Dr. Willoughby: Do you actually believe that after the way you've just behaved that I would even consider recommending you for admission?
Kumar: No. I'm gonna be honest with you. The only reason I'm applying is so my dad will keep paying for my apartment. I really don't have a desire to go to med school.
Dr. Willoughby: But you have perfect MCAT scores!
Kumar: Yeah, just cause you're hung like a moose doesn't mean you gotta do porn.

I think Xbocker just makes up some of the stuff he comes up with. I can't tell if he's joking or serious.

The idea is on par with lighting a match to see how much gas is left in the (gas) tank.

Please nix the personal attacks please.

And staying on topic...

If you already have an acceptance somewhere else, then go ahead. No one can stop you. But if you haven't gotten an acceptance yet, you'd be foolish to blow off a chance at getting in somewhere.

Why wouldn't you just lie to your parents and not go through all the trouble of showing up to the interview?

What are they going to do? Call in and check up on the status of your application? Unless they are that bat**** crazy, I'm pretty sure you could just tell them they rejected you without the hassle.

The idea crossed my mind because I did not want to go to a school so close to my wife's family. I just told her they don't accept out of state applicants.

You should worry about getting accepted first. Go to all the interviews and once you get accepted to some schools make a choice based upon the acceptances not inteviews.

You are better off hiding any acceptance letters you get from other schools from your family, and then shredding them once you get into the school you want

 pray that she or worst "her family" would never find out.

Um...yea...welcome to MY world.
Not to mention my family has connections to know EXACTLY how the application process works. So unless they literally see a "rejected" sign from the schools that I don't want to get into, I can't do none of that lying or shredding paper stuff.

And it's a risk that I'm taking, but I know that I'm very good at interviews and I'm confident with my DAT and GPA scores. I already got a couple of interviews from the schools that I want to get into...so it's a risk..but a good chance risk.

(shivers) i'm afraid that one of my family members is reading this rite now. . .:scared:

start jerkin it in the interview and say you have to take care of something first before you start the interview

here's the formula for successfully blowing off an interview:

Adcom: "so why exactly do you want to be a dentist?"

you: "did somebody call a dentist?"

<hit the boom-box you conspicuously brought in, thumping techno music starts, you stand on your chair and dance revealing the home-made speedo with a molar on the front, dance until security removes you from the premises>

Wow....

Is your family paying for it or are you?

If it's you, then grow a pair and tell them to as I so eloquently like to put it...."Get ****ed." It's your life, do what makes you happy. If they really are going to disown you over something that makes you happy, then that's their problem and you're better off without them telling you what to do all the time. They'll get over it.

Why would you take this risk just to please your family. You could potentially not get into any schools.
If you do decide to go through with this dumb idea, do something worthwhile and bring a hidden camera so we can all see what you do. At least make it threadworthy.
