EVMS Decisions

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats Dr. Tacrum! I hope you don't mind sticking around in the DC area for another 4 yrs! I'm glad to hear that you got in and hope to see you down the road at some point. I always said you'd make it! That makes me right on every prediction I've made so far with Depakote's acceptance coming soon! 🙂

Maverik (new poster it seems) got into EVMS yesterday and received a phone call to that effect. (Congratulations if you're reading)

Good to know we're now to that time of instant gratification as opposed to waiting for the postman to come. 😀

Well thank you, Dr. GC. 👍

just thought i'd add to the good news of the thread...i have been accepted to EVMS! i got the "increased tuition" letter in the mail today and had no idea why so i called the admissions office and was informed that my acceptance package had been sent on the 5th but to my old address in south carolina. needless to say, i was shocked and of course worried i had missed the deadline to accept the offer but they said i was fine and they are sending me a new acceptance package tomorrow. honestly, i am still in shock. this is my first acceptance after 2 years and all i can say is I'M GONNA BE A DOCTOR! to all my fellow waiters, keep the faith, my day has come, and if i can get off the waitlist so can you!

Awesome! Congrats. 👍

No more AMCAS for you. 🙂

thanks tac! yeah, thank god no more amcas. i really did not have the $500 to do it again. and cograts to you on GW. i grew up in springfield, va so i spent a lot of time in DC and you will love GW. just make sure you go the brickskeller!

Oh yes, I have already been there several times post-exams coming from Georgetown. I like it a lot, except for the cigarette smoke. I think they might be banning smoking in bars/restaurants in DC soon though.

Congrats bikedoc!!! Be sure to go to the beach often while it's still hot out 👍

Congrats bikedoc - reading your mdapplicant profile makes me think of my own. I'm glad you got in 😀

yeah congrats bike docc that is awesome! i'm exactly the same boat as you too..but i'll see u next year either i get in or not cuz im doin the med masters!!

btw did you get any call from them and were u in the middle third?

yes, i was in the middle third, at least i was the last time i called which, honestly, was a long time ago. i sent one LOI (interest) about a month ago and just left the rest to fate. and no, they did not call me. i called them after getting a letter about tuition being raised and was told my acceptance was sent 2 weeks ago but to my old address so they are sending me a new one. i hope you get off the list as well. the med master's was my backup plan too. good luck!

Docbike1021, do you have a place to stay in August yet? I' m curious because most of those late acceptees will have a tough time looking for apartments, rooms in Norfolk.

I pestered the admissions office again today. They said the waitlist hasn't moved this week.
I'm getting pretty :scared: ing nervous.

Anyone know if any OOSers have been accepted off the waitlist?

May the good luck spam help us all. :spam:

i also called today just for them to tell me i'm still in the middle 🙁

you'll hear different things from different people too. When I call, they say middle third, but whenever i've spoken to Dr. Solhaug, he's said upper third. I tend to listen to him.

I just break it down to "still waitlisted" and "accepted". I don't even sweat the thirds anymore.

Just wanted to say congratulations to all who have been accepted!!! I moved out of my school apt and into my parents' for the summer, and they still have dial-up. Needless to say I only get online once a week which is why I haven't been around.

Good luck to the rest of us- I hope more SDNers get good news soon!

No news to speak of.

They are mailing/calling notifications at the moment. It is case by case, esp if you're holding at another school. Did find that out from the Admissions Office.

My guess would be that they are calling those who are holding that they might potentially lose to other schools and then mailing the rest of us? But then again, maybe it really is case by case ...

Thanks for the update Depakote 🙂

P.S. Did they say if there had been any movement (IS, OOS, whatever) lately?

I believe that is what they're doing.

I did not ask about movement.

*bump*

I called Friday and the office said that there has been no OOS waitlist movement whatsoever / no withdrawals, so that was a bit of a downer for the rest of my ambulance shift, but I'll be calling tomorrow to hopefully set up a phone interview with Dean Solhaug. Good luck to everyone this week :luck:

*keeping my fingers crossed*

something's gotta give.

No news, just thinking about EVMS and you all. :luck:

Agreed. Good Luck to all over the next few days. :luck:

And since I'm going out of town to visit family for the next few days! Congrats to all of you that get accepted. I'm rooting for all of my SDN friends!

I just called.

They didn't even have to look me up. There's been no waitlist movement in the past week.

How depressing...

Thanks for the update. I guess they'll just keep me hanging on, hanging on the telephone, and all those other musical cliches.

hey guys, i am a OOSer who recently got off the waitlist (2wks ago) and i wanted to tell you that my phone conversation with dean solhaug was the clincher. the 20 minute conversation allowed me to put a personality to my application and allowed him to express any concerns he had with my specific file. after hanging up with dean solhaug, i was satisfied that he personally knew how much i love EVMS. i would suggest setting up a quick phone conference with him, and dont worry about a repeat interview.. he is quite friendly and easy-going..

on a lighter note, i know of one OOSer who may repeal her acceptance by this weekend. i hope it doesnt matter that shes a she 🙂

👍 maverik

The fact that she's a she could definitely help me out... though at this point, as much as I love EVMS, I think I would give up my spot too as many arrangements have already been made at a state school. EVMS is more of a fit for me, but it is also more expensive and farther from friends and family (and the apartment I've already leased, loans I've applied for etc.) So should that spot by some miracle go to me, it should also have a quick turnaround and go to someone else as well.

Good luck to all- I hope you all get in and have a wonderful four years in Norfolk 🙂

Dean Solhaug should be back in the office today, so maybe the lack of movement will be remedied today (I have a sneaking suspicion/hope that there was no movement because there was no dean to make the decisions 😉 )

Where was he/how long was he gone?

(Edit: wow I sound like a stalker, just wondering how much correspondnece he missed)

He has been on vacation for at least the past two weeks (which I am hoping is also the reason why no one from his office has responded to my request to schedule an interview yet).

Depakote said:
Ah. Hope he had a good rest and is ready to make some phone calls.

Does anyone know when classes start at EVMS?

Orientation starts the 14th of August. I imagine that the office might feel awkward having told us so much about how much of their class comes from waitlists in the past, given the relative lack of movement this year. Sigh ... I wonder if anything has happened this week yet.

I just called the office and there has been no OOS waitlist movement. I don't know about IS movement as I didn't ask, but I couldn't get any sort of response to my enquiries about the likelihood of movement ... "each year is different" and "you never know who might get accepted at their state school."

le sigh...

Well, thanks for checking. Saved me a call.

I'm not getting a pulse ... go get the AED!

I'm not giving up on this one yet!

Yes, but would you be willing to perform the mouth-to-mouth on it? 😀

Depakote said:
😵

Not quite sure how to respond to that Vinny...

Haha, I just was trying to think of something funny to say along the lines of an emergency scenario.

Although ... if you want to do some mouth-to-mouth, call sometime towards the end of this week or next and let me know if they are saying anything different. 😉

I'll probably give 'em a call sometime this week. Just to remind 'em I'm still here.

You should remind them that you're getting ready to apply to a whole bunch of schools again & their chances to have you as a student are quickly running out!!

Poor woman and poor me. She sounded a bit sad (wishful thinking?) to say I'm still in the same place I've been the whole time, namely in the upper 1/3 with no movement whatsoever. (if there was an apathetic/indifferent smilie, that is what I would end with)

hey guys, i will be withdrawing from the upper 1/3 waitlist but I dunno how much good that will do since it hasnt really been moving...the best of luck to all you guys and honestly, if it doesnt happen this time, keep on working at it bc it WILL happen.... :luck: :luck: :luck:
